Lets forget the mention of Taurus. I'm just curious what sort of changes or mods that you guys would make and why. This is more of an educational thing than a shopping list. I'd like to learn about and understand what the various mods are and what the pros and cons of each are. I figure we have several knowledgeable people here that could give that sort of info (and enjoy talking spoon).

Forget the Colt referencing in the link. The list is a good one. Shoot the gun a bunch before you do anything.

Here is my PT1911 in its holster. Problems I had were the feed lips to both factory mags cracked within the first couple hundred rounds. I had the feed ramp polished before I discovered it was the faulty magazines. I replaced the mags with wilson combat mags and they are by far the best magazine I have used so far. The other problem I have is the weapon shoots low every time for me. Always centered but low. I had better shooters shoot it and they were low too. So the next mod I might do is change the sites so I can get closer to center. As far as reliability, after I changed out the mags I have never had a problem with it going bang.

OK, you guys had me curious, so I tried the 1911 in one of my old IWB holsters while i walked the dog. I rarely carry when I walk the dog, but wanted to feel what it felt like to carry the thing.

I was very surprised that it was actually very comfortable. I think it was more comfortable than the lighter, smaller (but double-stack 9mm) gun that the holster was designed for. I think the combination of what I think is a great holster, the slim profile of the gun and and the more rounded shape.

I'd prefer wood grips, but purely for looks. I'd even thought some G10 might be nice, but I'm probably not going to upgrade the grips unless the grips that it came with turn out to be a problem for some reason.

To answer the OP question. Trigger job, accuracy job and dehorn. Then, a good training class from one of the reputable training schools.

Once you do a Brown you can never go back...

Springfield TRP...A friend has had a coupla Springfield LOADED's, they are rock solid shooters right out of the box..for a snob I was impressed.

But the Brown is smooooth and right on the money. Ya can shoot out a crows eye at 100 yards...

As said it is far better to buy something that is done at the factory, cause you will eventually get your dinero back...when you build something the sum of the parts is more than what you can recoup.

As with collector cars the best way to buy a custom is to buy it from someone at a discount to the cost of the build.
