$20 worth of veggies!

Beets and carrots dominated the color palette. Even w the beet greens.

Who's juicing? I refuse to put this in that dinner thread ( on principles )

yeah, with the beets it'll look like you're bleeding internally. Carrots do it too, but not as alarming a color.

We spent a couple of years juicing. We discovered that keeping the mix simple, 2-4 juices kept the flavor pretty good. We then switched to smooties, keeping all of the fiber.

I like both options quite a bit.

For the juices we went the full gamut of fruits and veggies, but I had a heck of a time with anything tomato based. I only found one that I liked.

One of my favorites was Pineapple and ginger. Carrot, orange and ginger is also quite yummy. I liked many of the others and was able to get them all down even if I didn't care for them much.

We used the Omega 350 Vert. It is an excellent juicer.

We use a nutribullet for the smoothies.

I think most should be apple or citrus based (around a half) and the other half a mix. Parsley's good, even sweet pepper (small doses) can kick it up.

Beet + carrot. Yum.

Beet juice lowers blood pressure, by the way. It is well established science, not hippie talk. Beets have nitrate, nitrate dilates blood vessels, larger vessels lower pressure. The effect is temporary, so you'd have to drink beet juice daily.

If you guys are juicing daily, particularly with beets and carrots...Get your blood sugar tested.

I was juicing carrots, beets, and spinach daily. I went in for my mid-50's physical and my fasting glucose was 102! 100-125 is pre-diabetic. I'm not overweight, eat right, and workout hard every day. The doc asked how much fruit I consumed. I told him I juiced carrots and beets daily. He said to stop and retest the glucose in two weeks. New result...84. Perfectly normal. Beets and carrots are VERY high in sugars. Too much of a good thing I guess.

Too much of a very good thing is bad.

It's still a good thing, though.

My wife bought the Ninja a while back. She loves it; I can't bring myself to "drink" most of the crap she makes. She uses a lot of kael (sic?), berries, and other stuff. Tends to look like baby diarrhea to me...

You would be heathier if you ate your vegetables as they come, even if raw, than turning them into juice...

I've had my blood tested after drinking only juice for 3 days prior to the testing and had blood glucose levels of 90. We did various fruits and veggies in our juice

When there are tons of greens it can be a little hard to get down, especially with some greens. Also, too many ingredients can make it rough. We've found that only using 3-5 ingredients is best. Usually some leafy greens, then a base of either banana or avocado, then some sort of other fruit and maybe some berries. Adding some nuts or flax is good too. Then I usually add a few ice cubes and a little water. If you use the avocado, then use a bit more water as the avocado has lots of fiber and makes the smoothies really thick.

Juicing is better than not getting fruits and veggies at all, but getting the fiber from is also a huge benefit.

The missus and I did a lot of juicing for about 2 years. It was great. Now we've nearly stopped, only doing it every once in a while. Now we're doing smoothies as I described above, so getting the fiber.

I think the idea is that to benefit from veggies we have to eat a lot of them. Juicing minimizes the volume but maximizes the amount of nutrients.

Did green one last night that was damn horrid. My dog ran away.
