Can you stab yourself with a needle?
My coworker just injects himself regularly. He does it no problem. While talking on the phone, whatever. He says he never remembered it being difficult for himself. I'm not so sure I could inject myself. Just wondering.

Dr's practically have to strap me down for an injection.
I can't even watch someone on TV get a needle. Oddly I can stick myself.

Yep - as a diabetic, you develop a tolerance for pain - on so many levels.
someday - I'd like to stab someone else - you know- be on the right side of the needle for a change... ![]()

I'd probably pass out, happened at MEPS after the third try to draw blood. If my life depended on it, I would learn.

I've been ok with needles since I was little. When I was 7 I had to get a BUNCH of shots to travel to Japan. I've never had to stick myself. I'd rather not, but I think if I had to I could. I've picked and cut to get splinters out or decapitate a wart. It probably depends a bit on how you have to stick yourself. I had a diabetic boss once would would just jab a short needle through his pants into the top of his thigh while he was talking to you. That's probably a bit easier than having to get the needle into a vein.
How about the scene in the movie the Rock when Nicolas Cage's character has to inject himself in the heart with the VX Gas antidote?

It helps (somewhat) that insulin needles are a small gauge.
Actually, I once gave myself an injection when there was no one else around to do it. I woke up one morning with gouty inflammation of an ankle tendon. It was so painful I couldn't put any weight on the foot. I was literally hopping around on the other foot to get around. It was a Sunday, but I knew there was no way I could manage at work in the upcoming days if I was still like that. And Mrs. Noah was out of town. So I drew up a cortisone injection and injected my own ankle (with a 25-gauge needle). Pain went away within a couple hours and I was good to go. Where there's a Will, there's a way.

I can give and take. I've injected my mom (insulin), I can stick a needle in me without flinching. Shots for me, IV's, No big deal.

Modern needles are so sharp (laser sharpened), if you do it properly you can't feel a thing.
Wife used to draw blood for lab work and she took pride in the way she did it so that people didn't even feel it.

Id have to be in bad shape like Noah described before I could. I usually can't handle needles though. Don't watch when I get shots etc. I get light headed when I see blood, usually I can bandage myself up first if I get a bed cut, but then I better sit down.

I took allergy shots as a kid, but could not do it to myself when my dad was on the road. We had to have a friend do it, who had been an Army medic. Back then I was terrified of needles. Now I have no fear whatsoever and don't mind blood tests anymore than clipping my fingernails. But I haven't had occasion to inject myself yet. I think I'd be able to do it.

I become physically ill at the sight of needles. So much to wear I will stay away from any room that could possibly have them in.
It's fairly comical to my friends. Downright terrifying to me.

No, but I do pretty good with a pocket screwdriver, . pick, or awl. I can bury one of those in myself like nobody's business.
Actually, needles do not bother me. I find it harder to stick someone else, than myself, we used to have to give insulin shots to my father in law, and it made me queasy.

Can you stab yourself with a needle?
Beats the alternative... I had a roommate for a while who was diabetic and had to inject twice a day. It bothered me a little to watch at first but it became kinda fascinating after a while. I think (like him) that I could get used to it, especially if the alternative is ending up in the ER or dying...
The hardest thing for me was giving daily saline IVs to my cat when she was in the final stages of chronic renal failure. The vet showed me how to do it painlessly and I always did it right and she never showed any bother from it but the whole "ripping" sensation as the needle broke the skin bothered me. Very sharp, probably no pain, but a lot larger gauge than an insulin shot. I've given a few other injections and it never bothered me. Oddly blood donation needles (which are probably about the same diameter as the aforementioned IV) never bother me. I've had IVs too - again no issue.

I have been on allergy shots for 20 years. My wife usually injects me but if she is out of town I have done myself. I take the shots in the left arm about where my smallpox vaccination scar is.

To be completely honest, I'd be happy to do my own appendicectomy (it's a no brainer op despite what your surgeon might tell you) but the anaesthetic is a little bit problematical.
Needles? Unless it's a knitting needle or stingray barb , no bother. In the words of Young Einstein "I'm a Tasmanian" ![]()

Does stabbing yourself with a Gamakatsu G Lock worm hook about five times per trip count?
