Toyota Is Moving Most Of Its U.S. Headquarters To Texas

Toyota Is Moving Most Of Its U.S. Headquarters To Texas

"Apparently all of my talk about how great Texas is has rubbed off on Toyota, or perhaps the low cost of doing business has encouraged the automaker to move "substantial parts of its U.S. headquarters" away from Torrance, California to suburban Dallas as Bloomberg just reported. Howdy, y'all, I hope you like brisket.

Here's what Bloomberg has:

Toyota has more than 5,300 California employees, most at its Torrance campus in sales, finance, marketing, engineering and product planning. Details on which functions will move and when may be announced as soon as tomorrow, after the employee meeting. When Nissan Motor Co.'s moved its North American headquarters to lower-cost Tennessee in 2006, only 42 percent of employees initially chose to relocate.
Toyota City, Japan-based Toyota may base its new regional sales headquarters in or near Plano, Texas, said three of the people who asked not to be named as the plan isn't yet public. The majority of Toyota's Torrance operations may move to Texas over a two-year period, the people said.
The reasons may have a lot to do with how cheap it is to move a business to Texas, the proximity of their manufacturing operations in San Antonio, and the mere fact that Texas is awesome (Plano may not be my favorite part of Texas, but it's still Texas). That may not be persuasive to people who live in California and planned to stay there, of course."

Texas will be a bit of culture shock for those California folks who move to Texas.

Plano is nice, I like it a lot. **** ton of stuff going on.

If I had more time to look when I moved down here and had toured Plano I would definitely have moved there.

It's like Highland Park but younger and not quite as hip but without the traffic hassle.

Any corporation will consider the no biz tax and lax environmental regulations that the big state of Texas offers.

A few years ago I was about to sign the dotted line purchasing some commercial property in California. Thought I better check CA's tax code before committing.

What?? You've gotta be kidding!!

Not a chance I will ever buy any real estate in California! Texas may be somewhat enticing, but California must be trying to chase business away.

This. WA state had to bribe Boeing to the tune of 9 billion--with a b--dollars in tax breaks and incentives recently just to slow the exodus of Boeing from the state.

What is it about us west coast states that like to drive business elsewhere? WA just shot themselves in the foot. I am not sure what actually happened (too sad to read about it), but how can this be happening?

Idiot politicians who think they're entitled to redistribute everyone else's money. If they bothered or cared to check they'd find most shareholders don't like that too much and would prefer their companies spend the money they earn the way deemed best for the company, not the way some politician tells them to.

Ocean and nice weather can't offset oppressive taxation and high cost of living.

TX and a few other states have it right. Corporations aren't evil. Corporations provide tax revenue, corporations provide jobs. If you want to grow, attract the corporations who bring with them jobs. The people will follow. It's really pretty simple.

Wow. I have a good number of former coworkers that are now with TRD in Costa Mesa. I guess they get to hear about this from the horse's mouth today.

California is a place so screwed up that they are basically trying to kick out sriracha because it smells too delicious. They must not like jobs or fantastic smells.

Welcome Toyota, and sriracha you are welcome to build a factory in my back yard.

Texas has been courting a lot of the major Illinois based companies too. Caterpillar....etc. If my job was not tied to O'Hare, I'd move down there.

They're probably working on a new law that says the state can take over any company they want and force it to stay here (until all the money's gone).

Q) What happens when 55% of the people don't pay income taxes and get to decide how much taxes the other 45% pay?

A) All of it. They take all of it. Then the well runs dry and there ain't no more and they wonder what happened and blame it on the 45%.

Sriracha did not grease the wheel with their liquid money coming out of the oil can so they were f'k with by the local politicians. I am currently doing a little work for a young man who grew up with the son of the owner of Sriracha. Last I heard was Sriracha say ok, see ya. What is it about these politician that can just f with so many people's lives. I am not just talking about just the owners of these companies, but all the people that are involved that are caught up in the middle.

My friend is in the business end at Toyota. She's been there since college and now just turned 50. Now what's the hell is she going to do and who will hire her?
