If I were still dependent upon an allowance when I was 20-25 years old, I would have behaved a lot better, too.

Mine are gone, too. Kegger at my place...

Funny how every new generation thinks it is somehow "better" than the last, and how every older generation thinks the new one has gone to hell in a handbasket. Funny, too, in that both sides can produce "data" that proves it.

In Cockerpunks defense, I couldn't give a crap about anyone's spelling or proper use of grammar. As long as a person gets their point across, that's all that matters to me.

i love in in PARF when folks mock my spelling or claim i live in my parents basement (which is the funnest of them all, but i digress). all they are really doing is saying they lost an argument to someone who is bad at spelling, or lives in their parents basement. congrats. you still lost. whats more, you lost to someone who doesn't spell well. way to try and prove you are better! hahahaha

if you had a counterpoint besides spelling, you'd argue it. since you don't, you don't.
Okay CP--you win. All evidence overwhelmingly indicates that your Generation is the BEST. So, when are you guys going to finish making everything better?

Instead, I was called out for my error. I used friends, instead of friend's, in an internet forum...

When I see LakeCleElum and gacook pointing out such little mistakes, after they clearly comprehended cockerpunks post, I just think why do you guys even bother?

Anyway, I'll get off your lawn now. Just had to get my ball. Nothing else to do as I'm unemployed and living in my parents basement.

Since you called me out in particular, I'll respond.

I have no problem with an occasional grammatical error, misspelled word, or typo; however, when you've got somebody with an alleged advanced degree and who attempts to act intellectually superior to the rest of the world, I'd expect him/her to know basic English. The only exception is if English is your second language.

I'm sorry, but it is a major pet peeve of mine when people cannot communicate properly in their native language, whatever that language may be.

Hey, nostatic, what if I'm pointing fingers at my own generation? You're not part of the problem if you're attempting to fix the problem, are ya? Unfortunately, I AM GEN Y

I am pretty down on hiring the so-called "millennials" after several first-hand experiences that did not go well. I've observed inability to separate personality quirks and emotions from business, laziness, attention deficit, naiveté, irresponsibility (excessive partying, tardiness for example), and lack of ambition. It's the over-coddled generation as far as I'm concerned.

Setting-aside all that, some of them are very nice people.

Hell, most Americans will not do some types of jobs for $50K+ a year! It's so much easier to tap parents or the gub'mint, or go gold-digging for a rich spouse. The enablers have created such an entitlement culture that it's just nauseating.

Gen-X'r here.

This is a true story of first hand concern of Gen-y'rs entering the workforce.

My wife works for a very large semiconductor manufacturing company (not naming names). She recently went to happy hour with a friend and co-worker who is pretty high up in the HR department, and had a conversation about some of the problems they're having with the current generation of well educated RCG's being hired by the company.

Like all big corporations these days, when there is a reduction in workforce, the company targets those who cost the company the most with wage and benifits, but with skill sets that aren't extremely unique, that can be replaced with RCG's.

So the problem they are having is that these RCG's coming in don't want to work. Or, more specifically, they will only work on the things that interest them and they enjoy. There is no lack of education, inteligence or ability, they just refuse to do the parts of their job that they don't want to do. It's become such a problem, that they've had to form a high level committee to come up with solutions to address the problem without having to add headcount!

This is the first time in the company's history that they've had this problem with a particular generation entering the workforce.

I do recall the Gen-X'rs being labeled as slackers way back when. But from what I've seen, Gen-X'rs have been pretty successful.

True story. Bout 8 years ago the company hired a engineer straight out of college.
I don't know which letter gen that is, you figure it out.
Anywho, he worked here about a year and one day his boss got a phone call, from the young engineers mother. She was asking why her little angel hadn't gotten a promotion yet.

So maybe it isn't the kid's fault, maybe if the fault of their parents' generation teaching them that their kids are entitled to EVERYTHING.
