Mark, congratulations and you've got a lot of people that care about you and support your success... myself included. You can do this.

Good for you!!
My girlfriend constantly worries about me, can't understand how I'm not tempted when around people who are drinking, or when we go out to bars, etc. It doesn't bother me in the least, but it's been about 14 years. Don't get hung up on dates, or how long you've been sober. It isn't a contest with anyone but yourself. Also, it doesn't matter how much you were drinking. If it was enough to cause problems legally or in finances or relationships, it was too much. I was forced into sobriety by legal problems. My driver license was revoked for three years, and I didn't drive during that time. AT ALL. This with a '74 911 in the garage. That was the REAL torture... Carter |

The sad part about some people who drink too much is the personality change they experience as they drink to excess. They say dumba-s things, let down their spouse or GF and attempt to drink and drive.
Nothing much worse than a drunk......and the next day they don't remember their bad behaviour. Meanwhile I cannot say that I have not engaged in the occasional drinkfest in the past but fortunately I get a hangover with more than 2 drinks so that is my limit. Except for when my daughter gets married next year in Ireland... Guy |

Good for you and your family! Give all of them a big hug for staying there for you. I don't have an addictive personality so I really can't imagine how hard it is to kick a habit. But I have watched others go through it. I suspect you are riding the high of success right now. The hard part is to stick to it for the long run. I'm rooting for you and your family!

This is fantastic news for you, your family, and your future.
My uncle, who has since passed, was a true mess and took his addiction to the point of divorce, loss of employment and finally, physical combativeness with his elderly mother. He was clean for 14 years following and directly influenced the lives of many more than our family ever knew. Unfortunately, we found this out at his funeral. Godspeed for you and your future. S

Good show. My hat is off to you.
I lost a good friend to the bottle just a few years back. Dead at 39. Left three young boys behind, the oldest being about 8 at the time. Another good buddy, a guy I grew up with, gets out of jail (after a year) in September. Three wives have left him, he's destroyed his career, has no savings and no prospects when he gets out. He's 53. I'm happy for you that you were able to recognize your issues and had the gumption to do something about it. These guys didn't...

You've got a LOT of folks on this board (like Rick
) who can help you IF you need it. I've always said this about most addictive behavior: Quiting is actually the "easier" part, NEVER starting back is what many fail at... |
