I'm pretty sure that the Scion, Subaru, Mazda, Hyundai won't check the luxury box for the missus.

Just have to put it out there that I personally can't do one car. It is no real secret that I have a fleet, but one of them is a late 90s Buick that had 45,000 miles on it when I bought it for 3,000 dollars American. You buy a Porsche of ANY KIND , and you are not downsizing (but don't say that too loud). Sooner or later you are going to thank me profusely for suggesting a practical ''classic''. It will be right after your ''911'' Carrera winds up in the shop for three weeks, with a problem that takes about 6 hours to fix.
You know this. Two cars. |

I'd say if you want a Swiss Army Knife of cars, the GTi or Focus ST are hard to beat.

OK, checked the BB value of the two vehicles that we currently have. 2001 Explorer XLT, in great shape, runs great, comfy, AC, etc.... $1700. I'm sure we could get 2500-3000 due to the shape it's in and that everything works and it's the XLT, but that was enough for me to convince the missus that it's better to just keep that one with minimal insurance as a backup than to sell it. So now I'm looking at 2 seaters or 4 seaters, $20-40k.
I've found a 2001 911 turbo in town, a couple 996 Carreras, and a couple of Caymans (Caymen? ). One or two of the Carreras have sport seats and one of the Caymans an S has sport seats which is something that I think i would like, but I'll know for sure when I sit in them. Sport Seats aren't deal killers. Miles range from 11k to 48k, years range from '99 to 2010, I think.

How will you handle it if both of you are leaving the hacienda, going in different directions (neither is a "haul" run), and both of you want to take the Porsche?

As much as I enjoy the 996, I think the Boxster/Cayman is a more fun car to drive. You can also get a newer and lower mileage example as compared to a 996/997.

For reliability the Acura TL or any of the Acura models are extremely reliable. I have had my TL for 2 1/2 years with no issue other than a filter issue. Warranty on the cars are 4 years/50,000miles and 100,000 and 6yr/70000mile powertrain warranty. I get as high as 31-32mpg at 80 and overall mileage of 20-21mpg. Quiet, comfortable, 280HP V6 with 6 speed trans. I have owned Honda's for a long time. These are better in every way. Resale value is great. I have leased mine and am getting signed up for a TLX today. Working on selling my current TL.
