I get as high as 31-32mpg at 80 and overall mileage of 20-21mpg. Quiet, comfortable, 280HP V6 with 6 speed trans. I have owned Honda's for a long time. These are better in every way. Resale value is great. I have leased mine and am getting signed up for a TLX today. Working on selling my current TL.
I really thought long and hard about Acuras, but none of them seemed quite as sporty as I was looking for.

Not a Porsche..... in the city.... give me size.... BMW 5 series, 3 series, Mercedes S or E. These are leased and treated for the most part w/ gentle hands....

So now I'm looking at 2 seaters or 4 seaters, $20-40k.

I've found a 2001 911 turbo in town, a couple 996 Carreras, and a couple of Caymans (Caymen? ). One or two of the Carreras have sport seats and one of the Caymans an S has sport seats which is something that I think i would like, but I'll know for sure when I sit in them. Sport Seats aren't deal killers. Miles range from 11k to 48k, years range from '99 to 2010, I think.
I was going to post "why not keep the Explorer as backup and just look for a fun car" but I see you already come to that conclusion.
I'm curious, have you already sold off the Miata?

He's already made his choice, but worth noting that all of the modern water cooled Porsches have great A/C. The 1997 Boxster with 137k that I have right now will freeze you out on a 100 deg day.

Yep, that's what I went with. I bought my first Porsche in Aug of 1999. Now I'm buying my second 15 years to the month later. This time it's a Boxster S. I'm pretty stoked. I'm flying to Dallas on Mon to pick it up.

Nope, not yet. I'll probably put it up next week.

That's really good to hear. It's darn hot around here, and it'll be nice to have great AC. The AC in the miata is very good, but not quite great.

Sitting idle on a 95+ humid day, I had that Boxster blowing about 45 F. Driving around town it was down to about 40 F. I don't believe any of the A/C system has been replaced.
