SLOW THE F*CK DOWN! That's how. You certainly don't hit the throttle and drift your way past him.

If anyone who watches the video can't see that TS HIT THE THROTTLE, and caused his rear end to come out towards Ward, then I can't help you. I saw it, I heard it, it's a fact. All he needed to do is get off the throttle and turn left, like everybody else did. His location on the track, and his conscious decision to hit the throttle makes him guilty in my view.

I'm sorry, just my opinion, but the minute you strap on a helmet and climb into a racecar you are resigned to the fact that you might die before the checkered flag drops.
Tragedy when it happens but it does happen and everyone knows it.
There are hundreds of sports that are very exciting were you are no where in as much danger.
Remember there is a group of people who would like to see automobile racing banned altogether
My dad was gifted tickets to the NASCR race in Fontana, he gave them to me, I have a friend that is a NASCAR fan so we went. We were in the middle of the stands across from the pits... the cars were screaming by at around 200mph... my buddy looked at me and said "if one of them goes out of control we could die!"... I was cool with that.

Here is a better quality slow-mo:
BETTER QUALITY: Tony Stewart Hits Sprint Car Driver Kevin Ward Jr (SLOW MOTION) - YouTube

To me it looks like Stewart's car is already pitched left as it comes into frame, implying he hit the brakes. Sprint cars have brakes only on the left front wheel and rear axle. Then the car kicks to the left, like he hit the gas, and the larger right rear tire kicked the car to the left away from Ward.

It also looks like Ward is hanging on the wing. Not sure though, but sure looks like it.

Sprint cars are single gear, direct drive. He was probably at idle. People who actually drive sprint cars, not just internet experts, say that a lot of steering of a sprint car is done with the throttle.

The guy who was two cars behind him, said

"From what I saw, Tony did everything in his power to turn down away from Kevin to avoid him,"

And: "People say that they heard the engine rev up and he gassed it. In a sprint car, the only way to steer is you steer with the rear wheels as much as you do the steering wheel. In my opinion, what he did was he gassed it to turn down away from him," said Sparks.

But hey, what would he know, he actually drives sprint cars, and was actually there watching it happen in front of him......

I don't think this was a racing incident. The parties involved were not racing when it occurred. They were under controlled caution, and were responsible to act accordingly.

This wasn't a tragedy, it was a crime, either of negligence or premeditation.

Premeditation? Really? If this was premeditated, you'd think by now we'd have heard about the bad blood between these two that resulted in Stewart laying this elaborate trap to finally do his rival in once and for all...

I can't believe you're arguing which way his car was oriented and when he hit the throttle, etc... They were under yellow for nearly a whole lap! The whole field was SLOWING DOWN! Why was he the only one hitting his throttle? Why was he so far up the track coming out of the corner? Why didn't he move down to avoid the car that he knew was sitting in the middle of the track?

The answer is simple - he saw KW on the track and he wanted to "brush him back from the plate" to use a baseball euphemism, and he made a horrible error of judgement when he stabbed the throttle.

We have heard, apparently you have not.

What would you call it if TS thought to himself "If that idiot gets out of the car, I'm gonna scare the crap out of him." as he was coming down the front straight before going into the turn onto the back straight? Premeditation?

He's definitely hanging onto the wing. Look carefully at that slow-mo clip at about 14 seconds. Ward is hanging onto the wing. You can clearly see his body swinging freely until he slips and gets wrapped into the tire.

I've got no answer to that, if for no other reason that you've judged the facts for yourself and found Stewart guilty of a premeditated crime....all from a grainy youtube video and a bunch of information, misinformation and disinformation flying fast and loose on an unregulated, worldwide medium where anyone with a keyboard can join in the discussion, regardless of intent or knowledge of facts. You've taken a position, chosen to believe what you want to believe, discarded anything in the debate that suggests a middle ground and discussion is pointless.

Frankly, I have no idea what Stewart was thinking, and if you do, you really should get your ass out to New York and avail yourself to the authorities so that a swift conclusion can be reached in this tragedy.

I submit that you've focused on too much of the unnecessary information, and ignored the most obvious.

FACT: Tony Stewart was at the wheel of the car that struck and killed another person.

FACT: The conditions at the time of impact did not preclude him from avoiding the impact.

I appreciate you allowing me to have an opinion. I'll be sure to check with you next time I have something to say.

Because, as actual sprint car racers have said, that is a big part of steering it.

Again, the guy 2 cars back from Stewart said: "From what I saw, Tony did everything in his power to turn down away from Kevin to avoid him,"

He watched it right in front of him, not from a grainy YouTube video.

The car wasn't in the middle of the track, it was at the edge. Watching the whole video, watching where the wings are in relation to the top of the wall.

About 10 seconds after Ward comes to a stop, a white car goes by that was farther up the track than Stewart, was he trying to kill Ward too?

Here are side by side shots of the car just in front of Stewart and Stewart as they come into frame. Look at the distance between the inside edge of the track and the tires.

Was that guy trying to kill Ward too? He looks to be about the same place on the track.

I'm curious as to why we haven't heard any eyewitness accounts of the incident. You know, the people that witnessed it in person, and not on the Internet..

Absolutely not. It is, however, a common occurrence at these events, is it not?

As stupid as it is, it did not relieve TS of the responsibility to pilot his car in a responsible manner, and make the safety of others his priority.

Not to a guy who actually watched it with his own two eyes.

If only he watched it on video, instead of in person, he would agree with you.

Yeah, we've also heard from another driver that said he could see him clear as day.
