Anybody special ordered a Red Boxster?

While waiting to board my flight from Frankfurt to LA this morning, I see this red Boxster getting shoved into the belly of our plane. They followed it up with two additional fully loaded pallets. It's amazing how they get those planes into the air.

Anyway, if it is yours, I can tell you it landed safely in LAX today.

That is super cool. I have an 8 x 10 glossy of my 76 being unloaded from the plane in Feb 76 at the Calgary airport when it was delivered.

It seems an expensive way to deliver a car. Whatever happened to good old containers.

When I think of what they charge for an extra carry-on bag these days, that must have been expensive.

I remember reading somewhere that the take off weight of a 747 with the shuttle on top was LESS than a fully loaded passenger 747. Amazing machines.

Its just returning from the "Lifetime Factory Washes" program. A pricey option, but still cheaper than paying the excess water use fines in So.Kal.....

Our company is shipping two helicopters overseas.
'In the belly of a 747' is one of the options.

edit: I don't know what plane this is, or whose helicopter this is. This is just a photo sent to me by the company that is handling the transportation.

great pics thanks for posting, brilliant idea of scale!

Its certainly a strange one as you'd kind of expect it to be a 911 getting that treatment. That would cost 5 figures to fly it surely, is it worth it?

I would guess it's a tourist delivery. Preordered, picked up from the factory and driven around Europe for the summer then they couldn't wait to seafreight it back home...

We occasionally drop-ship the biggest Focal speaker via air from France. 4 crates total weight just shy of 1500 lbs. Last time I checked it was $1100 - $1200 to the east coast. Typically flew over a weekend since their loads are usually lighter. Of course, heavy wooden crates are a bit easier to move than an uncrated car.

The Pax 747's are slowly losing favor... use too much fuel with 4 engines.

The freighters are still in good demand.
