I will have to root for UO Ducks this year. Do they have a good team this year?

Run it off right tackle 10 times in a row and they could make it work on 8 out of 10, against most teams. But when they get against a top team, I predict kiffin's play calling will look as bad as his daddy's defense. Do they play the LSU correctional institute this year? That could get ugly. I heard daddy is with the cowboys, and he's rolled out a new scheme called the "look out defense". The defensive linemen yell "look out" to their mascot in the end zone as the ball carrier runs past them. But I'm not bitter ........ |

I'm looking forward to the UT football season. So far there are a handful of players that have been kicked off the team, a couple of which could wind up in the state penitentiary. Shouldn't take long for the fans and local media to STFU.
The SEC Network debuts today on Uverse, and I wonder if I will get it, or if I can do a package swap. I'd much rather have the SEC Network than the Longhorn Network.

I watched a show about Bama's football program when it was an all white school. They believed that college football in the south was all that and a bag of chips. Then USC came to town and destroyed them during a season opener. The next year things changed at Bama. Watching the show I kind of got the feeling that Coach Bryant had a plan all along to help ease the racial tension in that city. I don't remember the name of the program, but it was well worth watching.

I'm looking forward to the match up as well. If we can knock off two good teams on the road, hold our own at home, there's reason to believe we could be 9-0 when your guys show up at our house Nov. 8.

I believe it was all planned out. Bama was coming off it's worst season in years. USC has only lost a couple games in three seasons. Bryant wanted to be able to recruit some of them darker-skinned players who could run real fast. But the more "ole fashioned" alumni weren't too hip to have blacks playing for bama. So Bryant and McKay worked out a game they both knew Bama would loose, and that would piss off the bama supporters to no end. Losing a game to that hollywood west coast team with black players? Oh the shame. A game that was designed to embarrass them into allowing Bryant to put black players on the team to stay competitive. And it worked. The only part that is really unknown is if they actually threw the game and padded the score or not. I don't think the bear was all that intent on easing race relations or integration, as much as he was into winning national championships. He wanted access to the top players in the country and didn't care if they were purple, as long as they helped him get more trophies. Last edited by sammyg2; 08-14-2014 at 04:17 PM.. |

He was all about winning. The Junction Boys is another good ESPN film on Paul Bryant. Gene Stallings made it through, and won another for Bama in 1992!

You're probably right about Bryant just wanting to win games, but in the long run he may have helped the situation that was facing the South during those times. If you're a football fan the show "A Football Life" is usually pretty good.

I dunno, being a Michigan fan (who has patiently been waiting these long, long years for them to get it together again)..... I took much schadenfreude watching Sabin and the Crimson Tide fall apart last year.
I think it had to do with his ass---- attitude. Makes it easy to root against them. I'm not proud about this - I'd rather root for a team than hoping for the worst for them.

Jim, I was raised in Michigan and attended about 10 games before moving south. I want to pull for them but they have done so little with so much that they have disappointed me to the point that if they're playing any team from the south, I want to bet against them. You can bet I'll be pulling for UCF next year when they play

I'm staring at a great big "dunno" this season with USC.
New coach, remnants of the scholarship restrictions ...... unproven QB and defense. Ranked 15th just for general principle. Could be real good, could be real bad. Like captain Ron says, "Nobody knows". |
