Searching on the e-mail address yielded this from another auto repair facility:

I have received Fax from 909-945-1722 from jayjohnson9005@gmail.com asking me for car repair estimate which came up $700.00 Make story short. He said vehicle got involve from accident & got impounded from other shop which NOT accepting credit card, only western union money. Customer Jay told me he will give me credit card to pay by phone for $2,500.00 and I have to send $2,000.00 thru western union to towing company so they can release his vehicle and bring it to my shop for repair. Half way of our conversation through email & with hearing impaired phone call, He told me Western Union not accepting his credit card because it is not "Gold Card or Business Card" it flag to me sound like it's a SCAM! So I told him right away, I'm not accepting credit card by phone. Since then he stop replying on email. Also he gave me his VEHICLE Vin# 3GYFK66N05G104656 came out FOR SALE from other state. Beware!!!!

Getting calls from 720-223-7274? 4/4

I know you guys know this, the hardest word to say sometimes is ...NO.
I figure real customers should be real people.
I do not need to deal with the mystical magical that wast my time with this kind of B.S.
If the customer was real, i would guess a phone call would be more EZ.>?
But if one lived in zimboland ..email is cheap.
2 - It is not his car, next thing comes the personal check for more money and send some back would ya? LOL

Yup. You send the money to the"towing company" which is him, and then the CC transaction fails and you are out the 2k

I find it very easy, especially when preceded by a "Hell" and followed by an "And eff off!"

There is a new one in the San Diego area where a person gets a phone call and the caller says there are warrants for YOU and we need payment right away to stop them. The caller wants a credit or debit card number or the cops will come right now!

I am waiting for the call and plan to tell them I only have cash, give them my police LT neighbor's address.....and then wait......

He wants you to send YOUR money to a towing company to get the car out of impound, and then he'll pay you back later after you fix the car. Run Forrest run.

I'd reply to his e-mail asking if he's over that ebola thing yet.

Send me $2500 cash for the repair and I'll send you a $500 gift certificate to get your car out of the impound.

Funny thing is, these guys fall for their own scams.

Tell him that you no longer do car repair after you won $100 million in the lottery. Sadly, you were diagnosed with terminal cancer and have no children to leave your money to. Tell him that you are looking for a worthy heir but you need to make sure you are leaving your money to the a good person. As you are on vacation, ask him to meet you in Tehran for an introduction. Whenever he asks for money to make the trip, explain that your evil nephew has seized control of your bank account, but that control goes to your heir when you die. When (if) he gets to Tehran, explain that your evil nephew has sent you to Libya as he got wind of the plot to take the money away from him...

People with older relatives need to be aware of all these scams and communicate them clearly. My parents are in their 80's and were victims of a phone scam (Nigeria) where they were instructed to buy cash cards and provide the numbers to the caller. My Dad caught on but Mom is a person who can't say no to "friendly" people. They would call the house 10x a day. Mom lost ~ $2000 in the process. I had their phone number changed to stop the abuse. Mom still thinks they were honest and that we missed out on a huge inheritance...

Sucks to get old folks.

Ah... Above makes sense. This is a multi-part scam then. Just wondered if there was something more sophisticated. I wasn't considering doing anything about it, this was just a new one on me.
