I just got an email from one of my banks (Capital One) telling me that they are partnering with Apple starting this October.

Has unlocked prices, scroll to end. $650 for 16GB "6".

Thanks -that link has what I was looking for. $849 for unlocked 128GB. I'm guessing my 5s would sell for about $550-$600 so I'd still be out $250 for the upgrade - plus a new case (figure another $50 for something not clunky or a POS). Dunno - $300 is a lot of Del Taco. On the fence as to whether it's really worthwhile. If it were 256 GB I'd do it but for 128, especially figuring a 6S will be out in 9-12 months likely with that (maybe $350-$400 out of pocket factoring in depreciation of my 5S by then) makes me says"hold off".

Like Porsches I find the "S" models for each i-device run to be vastly improved over the base models and worth holding out for. Your mileage may vary.

I'm wondering whether to spend extra for more than the base storage. I don't have problems with the 16GB on my 4S, and I may switch to Spotify (or maybe Apple will come out with a streaming service?) which would eliminate music storage. I don't feel the need to take thousands of photos or many videos. 64 GB feels like overkill for me.

Retailers that will participate include Starbucks, Chipotle, McDonalds, Panera, Nordstroms, Macys, Bloomingdales, Walgreens, Duane Reed, Staples, Whole Foods, Sephora, etc.

What does the 6 do better than my 4S? I use my 4S for photos, email, texting, music and occasional web surfing. I'm pretty happy with it so far. Why should I "upgrade?"

jyl 09-13-2014 08:30 PM

In my case, my 4S battery has deteriorated enough that I either need to replace it or upgrade. I'm perfectly happy with the 4S for email, web, text and so on. The reason why I'm choosing upgrade rather than new battery is Apple Pay and the coming Apple Watch. The 4S will do neither. Otherwise, I'd sit this one out, as I did the 5 and 5S.

^^^ Totally thought that was hysterical when I saw it on FB the other day.

Here's another pic from FB that made me chuckle. Maybe because I was actually eating a PopTart at the time.

My 4 has a very bad battery and is really slow. I think I may upgrade but I really cant decide if I should get the 6 or 6+...

Downside is I have to get a bunch of 30to6 pin adapters.

I watched a guy replace a 4S battery a few weeks ago. Didn't look too bad. I see replacement batteries with tools on eBay for under $10. This may be the way to go if my battery starts going. Really want to get away from Apple, but can't figure out how to convert my music easily and I need that more than anything else.

Mmmmmm, Poptart.

strange coincidence that my 4S has suddenly gone all buggy and crashy. even stranger that this happened to all my apple products every time they want me to upgrade.

That scheet might work with the fanboys, but that and the U2 album spam are making me look at how easily I can convert my iTunes to Google or something else so I can get away from Apple's BS.

red-beard 09-14-2014 11:24 AM

I use Audials to move everything from the iTunes to standard formats.

Rick Lee 09-14-2014 02:00 PM

Audials looks promising, but their website info really sucks. I need to start researching non-Apple phones and find one that checks off all the boxes. I thought I had deleted the U2 spam and then their songs started popping into my music while at the gym today. Great job, Apple. You lost me before you pull this BS with more bands I like less than U2.

onewhippedpuppy 09-14-2014 02:51 PM

U2 spam? What did I miss?

Edit - nevermind, saw your other thread.

Rick Lee 09-14-2014 02:53 PM

If you have an iPhone, go to your music, tap on artists and look for U2. You have the new album - 48 min. of music you didn't ask for.

Actually, no, they didn't 'push' the album to anyone. they simply identified it as 'purchased.' About 2 million people downloaded it the first day, but it was made available to 500 million.
