Well, that's it. Reports are streaming in, it is "bendgate." Apparently if you put an iPhone in your pants pocket and sit on it repeatedly, the phone may bend, and the slight curve can cause it to wobble when placed on a flat surface. Hipsters everywhere are devastated and lawyering up.

It's the iPhone 6 Plus that has this issue. And is it any surprise? Anything that big and that thin is going to bend if you sit on the wrong way. Of course, the phone is not designed to be sat on with your butt as a fulcrum.....

I would never expose you guys to that.

That Aluminum will bend isn't news. The article misunderstands ductility, deformation under tension. The issue is plasticity (compressive and tensile deformation). The problem is in the normal expected operation and storage conditions of the phone, the casing goes into the plastic region.

The design should be such that the normal forces on the phone will not exceed the elastic limit. This is a rigidity problem.

The question is what are "normal forces"? I don't think putting an iPhone 6 Plus in your back pocket and sitting on it counts as "normal forces". The butt can make a natural pivot point and the leverage put through that pivot point can be too much. The rib structure required to increase rigidity would make it very difficult to package the internals.

The answer is don't sit on the damn phone!

I love my six; it is a huge upgrade from my four. The phone fits in my skinny jeans without an issue. Gotta show off the quads to the "ladies" at URI.

iPhone6+ users - avoid pants pockets.

Am I wrong to think that even a minimal case would solve the bend issue? The little thin carbon fiber cases I use resist bending pretty damn well and add almost no thickness. Something more substantial should totally protect it?
