The response time and refresh rate on the Plasma is still 4-5x better than the LCD's. SO my gaming and sports/movie TV in the media room is Plasma. Everything else is LED LCD because it's "good enough".

c'mon, just because the marketing people put those claims on the box doesn't make it so. I have yet to see a plasma that I don't notice the flicker. --and I'm talking about those which claim super high refresh.

The benefit to plasma is the high contrast ratios. But if the viewer is flicker sensitive LCD is the way to go.

fwiw, my old sony refreshes at 240hz. (interpolating frames for buttery smoothness)

So, that puts the plasma at ~1000hz?

I plan on getting on for a PC monitor.

Love my Panasonic Viera plasma, do much nicer than our top dog Samsung Lcd that cost way more. Most of the downsides of the plasma, power consumption, burn in, bright rooms, are old wives tales. No flicker either, don't even know what that means from a previous comment. Colors and sports are better.

Do existing 4K TVs upscale video? I haven't seen much available in that resolution yet, and seeing how the local OTA broadcasters are still switching their equipment over to HD it could be a while before that becomes available over here.

Of course it flickers. That is a fundamental of how plasma TV's work.

What is 600Hz? - CNET

If you don't notice it, that's great, for you; as plasmas have many better metrics than LCD.

In a recent review, Consumer Reports talked up plasmas saying that over time, manufacturers have dealt with the old burn-in, high power consumption, etc., issues. They said to mainly make choices on features and how it looks to you -- but that technically, plasmas still had slightly better picture (esp. contrast ratio) than LCD's.
