"First World" Problems

This has been one of my latest meditations. The thread with the video of the woman tore up over people eating animals got me thinking about it again.
In a world where there is third world issues (sometimes in first world countries) like poverty, hunger, no clean water, child porn, spousal abuse, homelessness (and the list goes on and on), we have people torn up over eating animals. Really? Don't you have something more important to crusade against?

So what is your latest "first world problem"? Mine: Charter Cable jerked me around for a few hours and I had to call back and ask for a supervisor to get them to do the right thing. Oh the humanity.

Who's next?

Por_sha911 10-14-2014 10:44 AM

p.s. I already gave my own thread 5 stars because it would be horrible is someone else started it out with only one star!

I spent $100.00 on fuel for the boat this weekend!!!! Another $100.00 of gas into the Porsche.....Almost enough to spoil my appetite over an $80.00 lunch on the patio......

Schrup 10-14-2014 10:50 AM

Some A-hole customer asked for my supervisor & got me in trouble.

gacook 10-14-2014 10:51 AM

They forgot the jalapenos on my sandwich today. Absolutely ruined my day!

Other, more serious one...I'm building a new state-of-the-art (kinda) classroom for a multi-year project I'm heading up for one of the alphabet agencies. Had two 60" TVs mounted on our walls a couple weeks ago. Came in to work on Thursday, and one of those TVs had decided to commit suicide by jumping off the wall. So, lost a TV and have some nice big holes in my wall to repair.

I had a similar post a few months ago about the lower half of my boat ramp having washing away. Lovey! :D

One of the most seminal experiences of my life was watching a woman and her two children live off the grain droppings that fell under the ramp as men were carrying sacks of grain off a ship.

I'm blessed to have seen it and lived it early in life: I gauge a lot of bravo sierra by having watched them for week.

And yes, I did give them money, but I did it very early in the morning, so no one would see me, so they wouldn't get robbed. This at the request of the guy we hired to drive us around the country.

"You want to help her? Don't let anyone see you do it."

The privileged of being stupid seems to be on the rise.

Today at lunch the fresh salmon filet sandwich was great but one of the strawberries that come with the side of fruit was a little soft on one side. I decided not to make a scene about one mushy strawberry. It took great restraint. ;)

flipper35 10-14-2014 11:34 AM

The tine on my fork wasn't the correct thickness for the meal I was having.

I think the biggest first world problem is stupidity. There doesn't seem to be as much where you have to scrounge for food.

cairns 10-14-2014 11:35 AM

I can't afford another set of wheels for my GT3. The horror.

herr_oberst 10-14-2014 11:47 AM

I ordered 3 similar items from amazon, but only two of them were "Prime", so one of them took longer than two days to be delivered.

varmint 10-14-2014 11:57 AM

my dogs are too fat.

The difference is that in a 3rd world situation, there is no margin for error and stupidity is far more fatal.

Jeez Joe

I finally find myself in total agreement with you.

In the third world, this wouldn't be a problem, but dinner.

Definitely a 1st world problem LOL.

cashflyer 10-14-2014 12:35 PM

My new helicopter won't be ready until March.
I mean, WTF.... five months to put in a custom interior and paint the dang thing???

Hugh R 10-14-2014 12:36 PM

My pool and spa heater quit, I got the wrong paint code from Coachmen for my $80,000 RV for an access door I damaged and it will cost me another $231 to get it painted the correct color, my 911 failed SMOG. I mean can it really get any worse? Oh, I've been out of town for two weeks, dog crap all over the yard!!

MongooseGA 10-14-2014 12:42 PM

I'm down to only six beers out of my 24 pack...

I'd go get more, but I've been too busy studying for my license for a six figure career.

Just can't catch a break.

Do we spend an extra $1.50 or not? So confusing.

imcarthur 10-14-2014 01:26 PM

I didn't like my meal on my business class upgrade on my flight from LA yesterday. I was outraged.

gshase 10-14-2014 01:39 PM

Spam.....Love it fried and i cant find it at the store......Is there a real Spam shortage, Did they (The Hawaiians) buy it all up, Did Hormel loose the recipe or is this some ploy by the Government cause a shortage to drive up the price of pork futures right before the mid term elections? Or is this only a Red State issue? WTF

aap1966 10-14-2014 01:42 PM

Heater in my car doesn't work.
Perspective: coldest it ever gets in Brisbane is about 8 C (46 F), for about 2 weeks per year.

wildthing 10-14-2014 01:48 PM

Starbucks at Hilton Union Square is more expensive than Starbucks Disneyland. Why can't they be like McDonalds? Same price across all of US.

imcarthur 10-14-2014 02:06 PM

And btw, on that flight above there was some actor sitting in 2A. I thought he might be worth a selfie but I was so embarrassed that I didn't remember his name or what he was in, that I didn't accost him. I think he should have a name badge - that would be appropriate imho. I mean, I had to Google what's filming in Toronto to figure it out & that took me like 5 minutes.

My Carrera needs an oil change.

ledhedsymbols 10-14-2014 02:07 PM

I had to spend the whole weekend cleaning out the garage. I had to give away or donate a bunch of material things that I didn't need or use just so that I have room for our motorcycles and the antique Thunderbird from my grandfather that will be only be driven for pleasure on nice days.

Thank God it gets 10 or 12 miles per gallon, otherwise I wouldn't be able to put fuel in it.

MikeSid 10-14-2014 02:19 PM

The...
computer/phone/TV/GPS/game/camera/watch/book/audioplayer/compass/flashlight/payment device...
that I keep in my pocket...
has a low battery.

Por_sha911 10-14-2014 02:48 PM

WHO is reducing the number of stars rating for my thread?!

Schrup 10-14-2014 02:59 PM

How do I burn my sick leave without getting in trouble for abusing it?

fastfredracing 10-14-2014 03:25 PM

I quoted you guys today. My buddy Bob, special ordered a new Mercedes SL. He drove to Ohio today to pick it up, and when he got there, he did not like how the leather looked against the other interior bits. He backed out on the deal, and they held his $1500.00 deposit.
He was belly aching about it and I told him " first world problems brother , first world problems"

scottmandue 10-14-2014 04:09 PM

The Megan coil overs I installed on my Miata are kinda harsh... at 80mph the freeway seams really shake the car. That and the Bluetooth music streaming on the Alpine stereo I installed doesn't work all the time.

Rapewta 10-14-2014 04:25 PM

Wife and I are going to Pebble Beach in August next year. $300.00 each.
I am vaslilating between doing this or some charity.
After working for 40 yrs and saving money... what do you think?

I could have sworn I was on FlyerTalk for a moment, there.

Haha, you should try a SBUX in Russia some time... $12 for an Americano.

UncleRay 10-14-2014 04:48 PM

My 944 was out accelerated by another car. Now I must sell it.

DanielDudley 10-14-2014 04:56 PM

I've been moping since I sold my 911s a while back, and I recently got a call from an old friend who wants to sell me his. The problem ? I'm kind of torn up about why he has to sell it.

You think you have problems until a cold wind blows in the door, and you realize how lucky you have it.

I'll second that one.

"First World" Problems

It bugs me that people eat animals too - mostly because it's so stupidly inefficient from a nutritional standpoint. We could feed a lot more of the world's population on a vegetarian diet but whatever - we've got the system and the conventions we have and people have the right to do what they want, although I kinda wish we were more humane and less barbaric / boorish about it. As a disclaimer I've been vegetarian for about 25 years and credit it for being in as good of health as I am (once upon a time I had some not-so-insignificant health issues).

Eat what you will. Enjoy the good fortune we have to live in a first world nation. Try to preserve it. Be happy.

I think it's such a PITA sometimes trying to deal with the problems I do and realize I've got it pretty good. Should I drive the Porsche or Mercedes today? (Most humans don't have a car). What house project should I work on? (A lot of people don't own their own place). Should I leave my good-paying, stable job and take one in a warmer climate like Florida or Texas or Hawaii or overseas? (A lot of people are unemployed or underemployed). I grumble about my student loan payments (most humans don't have nearly the education I do - even if it cost a lot). I get upset at seeing so much of the world being persecuted by religious zealots - we're fortunate to not have to live under such oppression.

We're very lucky overall. Damn lucky. Things to ponder as the Thanksgiving holiday approaches.

To circle back - I'll throw out the following quote for ponderance:

"Nothing will benefit human health and increase the chances for survival of life on earth as much as the evolution to a vegetarian diet." —Albert Einstein

Anyone who thinks this thread is useless, as two pages think. But it isn't me, I don't even know how :(

Damn Jeff your post has so many points to be argued, (not my me as I agree with them), but what fun a debate, haha, there could be.
