John Rivers, give me a break, come on.

It has been stated that John Rivers was not given "proper treatment" at her hospital. Her emergency doctor was not a "certified" doctor at her hospital. Is there anything these folks wont do to scam the system? Can you say "lawsuit", in any other way. Do they need any more money than they have mow?

So if one of your parents or your wife died during a routine procedure due to incompetence, you would give the doctors a pass?

PUI offense. Some of the guys here need a keyboard interlock device installed that they need to blow into before posting.

I knew she had a lot of surgery done and may not look her best but to call her John is a bit mean. IMHO.

One more facelift and she would have had a goatee.

Doesn't everyone want their surgical staff taking selfies with you when you are under - while no one is monitoring your vitals?

That sounds like fun!

They deserve to get sued......good Lord!

But who, other than the OP, has mentioned a lawsuit?

understood.

if the OP is bothered by the lawsuit, i think i know the answer.

this exact question came up on some radio show. the family (daughter) just want the REAL answer to "why did Joan Rivers die?". the medical side, locked up all the documents. apparently, the only way to peek under the hood is to file a lawsuit.

i think the answer is: they are more interested in the truth, than the finanical settlement. (i think)..that is what the radio show talked about.

Lots of subtle and not so subtle ways to get in deep trouble when undergoing surgery. The relative infrequency of people dying while undergoing "routine" procedures produces an impression that nothing could go wrong. If that really was the case, there would be no reason for signatures on an informed consent document.

Accidents and unforeseeable events occur but I think there will be a pile of money changing hands when the dust finally settles over what happened to Ms. Rivers.

Clinic that treated Joan Rivers made mistakes - CNN.com
Quote:
Among the major errors CMS found the clinic committed are:
-- Failing to identify deteriorating vital signs and provide timely intervention;
-- Failing to record Rivers' weight, prior to the administration of medication for sedation;
-- Failing to consistently document the dose of Propofol, a sedative, administered;
-- Failing to get Rivers' informed consent for each procedure performed;
-- Failing to ensure that she was cared for only by physicians granted privilege in accordance with the clinic's bylaws;
-- And finally, failing to abide by its own cell phone policy (the report found that a photograph was taken of a surgeon and Rivers while she was under sedation).

not defending anyone here but that list has more than a hint of nitpicking to it. failed to 'record'....doesn't necessarily tell me they didn't do the thing, just that they didn't write it down somewhere..

Hmmm....so if you are about to be anesthetized, you'd be OK with "good enough?"

Yes but it may be used when painting a broader picture or theme.
