I suspect you are correct...although portability and ability to rapidly destroy evidence are probably still big considerations in less liberal areas...much as the avoidance of possession of drug paraphernalia. Kids are keen on ways to hide use from parents.

It might be hard to explain away a bong in a teen's room.

I agree...in fact, I believe illicit drug use is the primary purpose of these devices. However...these likely cannot be swallowed like a joint when apprehension is impending/imminent.

As the OP I would like to clarify my position. I had no idea this would get so much coverage.

I believe MJ should be legalized and taxed.

I believe it does less harm than alcohol or tobacco for sure.

But it will make so many people a lot easier to take advantage of. Can you imagine buying a car while you are stoned? Of course that salesman has your best interests in mind. Of course you are getting the best possible price.

It proves MJ is not a gateway drug because the use of a more illicit drug is not caused by the preceding drug, but by the environment.

Sorry for spelling. From phone.

No. In the study, they do not even attempt to prove that MJ is not a gateway drug

It does show evidence that a person's environment seems to be a factor in which drugs they initially use. Obviously, if you cannot obtain MJ, it will not be the first drug you use. Similarly, if you have access to alcohol, it will likely be the first drug you use (if you use any).

Once again, to make the comparison you seek, you will need a study that compares the percentage of folks that use MJ that later use harder drugs with the percentage that don't use MJ that use harder drugs. Much like the one I cited...where identical twins were studied...where one used and one didn't...then compare the results.

Golub and Johnson (5) found that 75% of inner-city heavy drug users began using cocaine before using marijuana. These authors also report that 1%–4% of hard drug users skipped both the alcohol/tobacco and marijuana stages (6) . Mackesy-Amiti et al. (7) reported that 39% of their sample started using marijuana after they had used hard drugs. Blaze-Temple and Lo (8) reported that 29% of their sample began using marijuana after having used heroin, stimulants, or LSD

Flint when you said science has been proving MJ is a gateway drug for 30 years, did you provide me with any evidence, before you said I don't approach things objectively?

100% agree with the OP. Although if the sales guy is high, I'll get a pretty sweet deal...

Once again...showing that people use hard drugs that have not used marijuana does nothing to prove that using marijuana does not often result on using harder drugs. To prove that, you must compare those you used marijuana and those who did not, and compare the percentages that used harder drugs later. The numbers in the studies I showed indicate that the percentage is much higher for those who used MJ.

I did not say that, but I did provide a recent study that showed that those who use MJ are far more likely to move on to harder drugs than those who do not (hence "gateway drug").

I have never seen the study but I bet the number one gateway drug of all time is either tobacco or alcohol.

I suspect tobacco is number one and alcohol is number two but that is just a guess.

MJ is just another step up the ladder. Or maybe that should be down the ladder to addiction.

Re: initial post.
Snoops says .........satire.
No one died from marijuana use, day 1 in Colorado.
It was always meant to be satire. The right wingers ran with it, regardless
The initial premise is bull****, for lack a better word.

How stupid/biased would one have to be, as a newscaster, to not check the facts regarding such a ridiculous claim?

Bottom line is that is is bad for you. Other things are bad for you as well. If the typical heavy, long term user loses 5 IQ points as studies indicate, the slightly above average IQ (say 102) becomes below average (97). If a person is willing to accept that risk, fine with me...as long as they are willing to accept the consequences. Apparently, most are not.

Nothing in the initial post that even discusses that.

However, there have been thirteen cases of children hospitalized from eating edibles in one hospital alone since legalization.

The first attributable death was in March where a stoned 19 year old jumped off a balcony after ingesting MJ infused cookies. In April, a similarly stoned man shot his wife.

The percentage of impaired traffic citations due to MJ is up to 12.5%.

KNOW YOUR DOPE FIEND. YOUR LIFE MAY DEPEND ON IT!

You will not be able to see his eyes because of the Tea-Shades, but his knuckles will be white from inner tension and his pants will be crusted with semen from constantly jacking off when he can't find a rape victim. He will stagger and babble when questioned. He will not respect your badge. The Dope Fiend fears nothing. He will attack, for no reason, with every weapon at his command-including yours. BEWARE. Any officer apprehending a suspected marijuana addict should use all necessary force immediately. One stitch in time (on him) will usually save nine on you. Good luck.

Are those 13 cases more or less than a similiar time period before legalization? With out knowing that, that is just anecdotal.

Fint, do you seriously believe that the fact the kid was stoned has any relevance to his jumping off a balcony? Was the kid drunk as well by chance? And what relevance does the fellow shooting his wife being high have? Do you actually attribute the shooting to that evil weed MJ?
Are there any studies that suggest more people are smoking weed in legal states than were before the change of law? Who out there is waiting in the wings, dying to smoke a dube but not willing to do so until the law changes?
I cannot believe there would be any increase in smokers, there will not be any increase in availability, you can get weed anywhere just using craigslist for as long as I can remember.....
People like Fint are the reason MJ was outlawed in the first place, and are a huge block to widespread de-criminilization. Be a pretty boring world with someone like that in charge, nannying your choices away. Can't drink, can't smoke, can't toke, probably can't stroke either I am sure there are a plethora of studies out there dealing with the evils of masturbation. You will go blind you know, studies show it!!!
