Bill Cosby a rapist? .... No way!

Normally I wouldn't have believed it but we're not talking about one "victim" here.
If true how did he ever get away with it? The more you read about this the worse it gets.

It doesn't seem like it could, but it often is because the prosecution only knows an alleged crime has been committed when a victim presses charges, and the only evidence for the prosecution is the victim's subsequent testimony. If the victim drops the charges and refuses to testify or otherwise cooperate with the prosecution, there is no case. I suspect, in this allegation, the victim withdrew her complaint and refused to cooperate once Cosby's team negotiated a settlement.

One has to assume that Bill Cosby, at the height of his popularity and earning power in the 1980s, had a hundred attractive women trying to get themselves impregnated by him. Standard celebrity or wealth/power situation. It's a "he said, she said" and thus very difficult, if not impossible to prove in actual court. The court of public opinion might yield some money so she's on TV now. Settlements occur in order to make the problem go away and do not imply guilt on either party.

One might also assume that Mrs. Cosby, comfortable in her life with her marriage contract and children legally binding her to Mr. Cosby's estate, had probably stopped sleeping with him and gone on about her own life separate from his. Another classic marriage-with-money scenario. He constantly gets attention from many younger and very attractive women (the free-sex pitch that is so common around moneyed men) and isn't getting any at home so he eventually succumbs, perhaps awkwardly in this case.

This... he is/was a hero of mine... hope it is not true but always think the lady deserves the benefit of the doubt.

Just to play devils advocate it sounds like everyone was under the influence of more than one substance.

Don't know how you are going to prove that 20-30 years ago you were at a party where everyone was stoned and there was inappropriate sexual activity.

That's why she's on TV, in the court of public opinion, trying to rustle up some interest in her claim and put pressure, hopefully, on Cosby to offer another settlement. It's a story about celebrity sex and the media loves stories about celebrity sex. She's probably too late though. Cosby's star has been in decline for years and he may not care about his career or his legacy enough to offer up another settlement.

if you read carefully you'll find that the cupcake in question was to be called as a witness but the complainant settled and the trial never took place.

mine is at least 6 mos old and three reformed hippies died getting it to me.

not only is it hopelessly out of date by now the human cost (even in hippies) is just too much to get another copy.

Not that it didn't happen...
But she stayed with him, traveled, and got bit parts in her career, for the next year or more.
Didn't tell police.
Didn't even tell mom.
Only after Cosby dumped her at the curb did the allegations came out.
