LOVED Iceland. I want to go back and circle the entire island (and hopefully see the aurora).
I'd love to do Turkey. Istanbul is near top of my bucket list. Patagonia would be awesome as well. I get the impression that it will feel similar to Alaska or New Zealand in terms of remoteness and jaw dropping scenery. |

Ethiopia is a Christian Country and I mention that as there are no Islamic issues. There are some fascinating historical sites...and the tie to Solomon/Bathsheba...if you decide to go I'd suggest reading 'The Sign and the Seal'...the real story of the search for the lost Ark. I went to a Church carved downwards into solid rock that is from the time of the early Crusades. The roof has carvings of Knights Templar that went to Ethiopia (Indus/the East at the time) searching for the Ark....fascinating. Things may have changed but I'd investigate further.... http://travel.state.gov/content/passports/english/country/ethiopia.html

Trinidad for Carnival, I spent 11 days there at the Hilton and it was awesome. the carnival.
Venezuela and the Orinoco. Boca del Toro, Panama I have always wanted to see Pitcairn and some others in that area. Never will. You would like Tavarua, spelling? Someone else mentioned Isle of Mann while you are there, Inverness, look for the lake monster. I didn't see it. |

Bhutan. Time stood still there. Gov. now allow internet access only for the past 10 years (I think). I was just talking with a client who just came back from Nepal and Bhutan. She's in loved with with Bhutan. I still want to go to Nepal, do the Silk Road and now hearing about Bhutan, why now, its right there?
My parents neighbor did the Amazon from the pacific side and popped out of the Atlantic. They hired this tour company and about 20 of them old folks did it. They claim the accommodations weren't bad at all. I can only assume they were 4-5 stars, but just don't know big were those stars in the jungle? |

Richard mentioned Cook Islands. I really liked Rarotonga which is part of the Cook Islands. Cook Islands are "over a bit" from Fiji.
Wow, what a great place. Crystal clear waters, tropical fish swimming around, plam trees etc. But what I liked about the place was everything was very easy and relaxing. No one was trying to rob you or get you to buy things off them. You just rode around on a scooter (maximum allowable speed is about 30mph in Rarotonga) to go from one beach to another. It has many levels of accommodation from cheap stuff to $200 - $300 a night to $1,000 a night. I stayed at this place Aroa Beachside Inn, Rarotonga, Cook Islands - Booking.com and would go back in a heartbeat. You fly there from Auckland and get greeted at the airport by someone with a string of Frangipani flowers. |

Have you done the top end of Australia? The Kimberley region. Extremely remote and extremely beautiful.

Skip Melbourne and come to Sydney instead.
Harbour Bridge, Opera house and the beautiful Harbour itself. Great beaches on the coast and Blue Mountains to the West. And if the timing is right come and visit the Porsche Club of NSW at one of our track or motorkhana days.

Turkey – Istanbul is a must. Allot 3-4 days. Stay in Sultanamet for all of the monuments. Cappadocia. Stay in Göreme & plan on a balloon ride – Butterfly Balloons is safe. Book a gullet for a few days to cruise the southern coast of Anatolia.
Morocco. Fez, Marrakech, Essaouira. Plan a trip down the Draa to the remote desert at Erg Chegaga & stay in a camp for a night on the old route of the Paris-Dakar race. Sicily is also a great destination, as is Andalusia in southern Spain. While I know that you travel much faster than we do, see my travel pages for pictures & ideas on the above: Turkey, Morocco etc Ian

I have spent a lot of time in Israel and can recommend just getting out of the cities and find a small town to stay in or near. I stayed at the Ramot Resort for two days.
I would also go to Masada...not off the tourist map but very beautiful and interesting. My son spent 8 weeks in Japan two summers ago. The language institute he studied at was in the Ishikawa Prefecture. He stayed with a farm family outside of Kanazawa. His family took him on a weekend trip to a hotel at the end of the Noto Peninsula on the Sea of Japan. He said that very few westerners go to the area. 能登åŠå³¶æœ€å…ˆç«¯ よã—ãŒæµ¦æ¸©æ³‰ã€ãƒ©ãƒ³ãƒ—ã®å®¿ã€‘

Lake Baikal and the Kamchatka Peninsula are both on my bucket list (Russia).
Iceland was mentioned - that would definitely be another spot I'd love to explore! angela

South Africa - Orbi Gorge Reserve - beautiful country - lots to explore.
Republic of Transkei (tip of South Africa) - amazing coastline Costa Rica - San Jose Del La Montana - it is not the capital (San Jose), but a small town up in the mountains. There is an interesting church there with a so-called healing spring - very interesting culture. While in Costa Rica, a hike to the volcano is a must! Alaska - Denali National Park. You can take a day-long bus tour that will bring you into the park far enough to see Mt. McKinley. All sorts of wildlife as well -- we saw moose and even a grizzly bear. Sweden - town of Udevalla and the surrounding area on the west coast is very pristine. Germany - Burg Hohenzolern - not as famous - but a great example of a fortress / castle. If you go in the winter nobody's there - if if there is snow on the ground and trees, it is downright magical. Triberg im Schwarzwald in the Black Forest - mecca of coo coo clocks - a bit touristy, but still a very nice journey. There's a restaurant at the base of the Triberg waterfalls - they make a terrific Spetzle with beef and mushrooms.

Personally. I would avoid the jet-set /lifestyles of the rich and famous scenario.
You are a motorcyclist, correct? Fly first class to, I dunno, Milan, maybe? Rent a motorcycle. Go for a ride. A long one. With the wife. Rough it a bit. Stay in 2-3 star hotels. Explore. Without a tightly planned agenda. My wife and I did it, this year. Best holiday ever. ![]()
