^^^CRAZY as ever!!!
|
I'll have to watch that tomorrow, i'm going to bed now. Actually 9:57, not 5:57 like the post says.
|
Another brilliant episode. Attention to detail and forward planning again serves them well.
|
Damn electrical scares me. It would be interesting to see how long all of that took....
|
#20 Half wired.
You'll get a charge out of this one. Best Les |

Cool stuff! Thanks for the heads up, Les. |
Those brackets for relocating alternator are some nice work. Everything these fellows have done along the way is quite impressive. I built a street rod years ago, solving space issues and fabricating one of a kind parts can be a challenge. Project Binky has been quite educational.
|
That alternator setup (all of the brackets, pulleys, and shafts) is simply unreal!!!!
|
Sweet Jesus Christ. Is there anything they can’t dream up and build?

When I was watching the very first episode I thought to myself that what they were doing was awesome, but doomed. I've seen so many car projects that started out too ambitious and always petered out and fell incomplete. There are several on the 914 world board where they got so into doing it that they lost sight of FINISHING it. And it languishes. I feared this was going to be one of them. Many years later, it looks like these guys might finish. But it's taken many years. Truth be told it died several times but has been resurrected. Their creativity and skills are incredible, better than mine on my best day evar. But I've only had one project die: a chopped top square back when I was 19 and even though I didn't finish it, the car was drive-able and the guy I sold it to finished it within a year. But I got in over my head and got burned out. Word of advice to those planning to start a car project: 1) keep it within your means. If you start out over your head you'll end up burned out with a partially finished project. 2) the goal is to finish the car and drive it, not to impress others with your skilz or creativeness. Keep it simple and doable or it will be doomed. And there is nothing impressive about an abandoned half-done project, no matter how clever you were with it. |
They earn $ when people watch their videos. So there is no incentive to finishing it.
|
Lots of tea, biscuits, and dry English wit involved in the making of this series. I'll have to tell my Dad, that #20 is out.

There are 3 options: stop working on it, finish it, or work on it for a long time. The money only flows when they keep working on it. I think they are awesome to watch and continue to be amazed with their craftsmanship. Plus they seem like really great guys. I get the sense that they have regular day jobs and do this on the evenings and weekends.
What happens if they do finish it? Can't do the same thing again. Hard to figure out what to do next that would generate revenue, assuming they stay with the YouTube model. So that brings me back to my original point, keep working on it, keep the revenue flowing. |

These guys seem to have no lack of imagination, I've heard them mention other projects that aren't getting done because of Binky, and a lot of people (obviously) like to watch how they solve problems... |
tensioning that main belt isnt going to be fun. But I guess being a toothed belt it shouldnt be a common occurance.
|
Holy crap, that alternator drive system is really cool, but complicated, and took alot of time to fabricate.

Yipes, wonder if they ever considering using a new/updated alternator.
Replacement looks almost like an engine removal to make room for your fingers to get the many allen bolts started. In any case, alt replacement is going to be an involved process. God forbid they get an oil leak from the cam cover once they get it fired up. Anyone familiar with the going price of that machining tool? How much did they put into the upgrades? Bill K |
At this point they have reached stupid level money in building this, but I suspect the YouTube revenue is more than offsetting the build cost.

But yes you are right, most of the materials apart from that fancy flex shaft have been pretty cheap junkyard stuff |
any more episodes? I binge watched through 20 or 21 I think

I think the main guy just has a great brain for working this stuff out in addition to a pair of very skilled and patient hands. I feel lucky to be able to watch. |
No rallying. Nick and Richard have mentioned several times in the episodes it would not be a race car and would be Nick's road car. Hence the power locks and windows, rain sensing wipers and air conditioning.
It is off the wall madness, but I am fascinated. Best Les |
After 20 episodes of 30+ minutes each, and only being half completed so far, they have plenty more likes, shares, subscribed, donations, and youtube hits $$$ coming. Building this car is their full time job, along with the production crew, so evidently, there is plenty of money being made.
|
I am assuming when everything is finished they will have to dismantle the whole car so it can be painted? And then put it back together.
