I once had a local mechanic replace the timing belt on my 924S. When I got it home I started reading all the information I had on the procedure and the cautions regarding over or under tensioning of the belt. I got the car to the Porsche shop and asked them to double check for me. They reported my local guy had nailed it without any specialized tools. Besides, who publishes torque values for urethane bushings in the subframe of a twenty year old Toyota? Best Les |
Surprisingly, a new episode has just been hatched.
|
New episode is out and Binky runs! As promised. Now how many years will be before it’s on the ground and driving? 🤣
|
Unless I'm mistaken Binky is scheduled to be the pace car for a rally sometime in the next month

Show Spanners won't allow a nut or bolt to be torqued to an improper value. All good with Project Binky.... |
Episode 36 :)
What a wonderful moment! I’ve been following this build for years, so seeing them finish up the last bits and fire it up was gratifying to say the least… |
I only watch it for the angry rabbit at the end. lol ;)
|
Was it just me that found this episode different?
Produced by someone else? |

I had a fiat that idled and backfired like that
I got $50 from the scrapper for it |
I've watched two videos with the car running, one posted here and another of the unload from the trailer. I would have to say at that point driveability was certainly an issue. Looks like a visit to a dyno for engine mapping would be in order and the clutch seemed to be an 'on - off' switch. (Possibly because of the weight difference between the Celica and the Mini?)
It made me reflect how hard it is to build a vehicle which drives "normally", despite the years of hard work Nick and Richard have put into the car. Kudos for making it this far. Best Les |
I noticed that too. Also seem to be lacking the tire and fender clearance necessary to make any real suspension travel possible. Definitely not sorted out.
|
I wonder why they haven't posted anything on their website?
|
Because they're fanatics and the car is not presentable?
|
|
I have to remember "We are only 18 months behind where we should have been 3 years ago".
It might come in handy sometime. |
Interesting episode. They sure go through their iterations for solutions.

I really like the process they went through for the custom brakes and clutch pedal mechanism. |
You can see Nik is clearly not having much fun anymore. He doesn't crack a smile the whole episode. I think their next one will have a few less accessories crowded under the hood - like the modern heat/ac system, intermittent wipers, and did they add anti-lock brakes?
I'd like to see how much stuff had to remove just to get to the problem(s). Their pristine motor shows a lot of handling finger/hand prints after all that. Can't wait till they get that thing on the track?trail?road? (whatever the purpose is). The clutch linkage mechanical workings was pure genius. |

It sounded like it was running like hell in the video at the rally.
Wow, the guys have gone off the rails on the gauge cluster. Wow. I think it'll be "brilliant" once they complete it, but it sounds like they'll hate it by then. |
It sounds like they already might hate it.
That gauge cluster will be a fascinating episode. |
I think the concept is fatally flawed and that’s why I think they have pushed it to the back burner.
It’s not going to drive near as well as the Toyota they got the motor from. I was enthusiastic about this thing in the beginning, now it’s just “who cares?” |
^^^ I have to agree... The results of stuffing 20 pounds of **** in a 5 pound bag.
|
they made a ton of money getting to this point....
|
The snake eats itself. Mission creep meets viral YouTube interest.
And in the end, the car isn't all that visually interesting; all the fun is in the details, and like someone said above, so far it hasn't even shown it can run well.... |
episode 38

Another excellent update! Thanks :)

The last few binky videos I fast forwarded through and only watched bits and pieces. |

I hope they made a lot of money off of the videos, because they certainly put a lot of time into their production. It’s interesting to note how gray their hair has become in the few years since they begin this adventure. |

Looks like they are working on everything but Binky...I can relate.

They are starting to look old! lol
|
If Binky is running then the whole thing was a money grab.
I dropped out immediately. Cars that are very complicated take forever. |
