Those clips are for the body colored painted seam covers . |
IYSS. I’ve only ever seen chrome. Either way it’s for trim.

No green self etching paint on the body pieces? I guess the grey primer filler is also self etching.
They do nice work, they have patience. |
That pearl detail was genius. I’d love to see it all in the sunlight. As with everything, Nik went mental with the paint.

Watched the short series on the tarmac racer and enjoyed it.
Was underwhelmed by the color they picked for the Mini and especially the nearly invisible special paint. Oh well.... |
Agreed, that paint ghost thing is so much effort done for the little effect, it just doesn't seem worth it.
And mentionend it before, the obvious thing I hate on mini's is that outside panel seam.. they have on the A pillar.. Now if they would have cleaned/shaved that off, it would make the car so much nicer and maybe even netted a one mph top end speed due to lower CX http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1612033476.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1612033476.jpg With all their welding and fabrication skills, surely they could have managed that? Especially the front ones irk me on a Mini.. it looks cheap it's been done before http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1612033791.jpg |

I love the paint and would like to see it in person if I ever get back to Shropshire. Best Les |
Sorry guys. I don't understand the negative comments about the paint details.
In a world of Ricers I find "subtle" refreshing and classy. Quote:

The external body seems are one of the things that makes a Mini a "Mini". And I'm sure Alec Issigonis never thought too much about aero when he designed the little brick. Note how they installed the clips before the top coats in the vid. I love details like that. BTW I've never owned one, I've always gravitated towards Italian or German cars. British cars have never done it for me. A friend of mine who has always been a British car nut is "happy" if he gets more than 80,000km from a classic Jag before the top end needs rebuilding. I've never understood that kind of thinking. My somewhat complete car list... (My many VW's are not included because they were either appliance or track cars)

Lessee all these colors to choose from ...... let's go with vanilla ;)
|
I REALLY wanted to see BRG, not milk colored white.

They are 15-20 grand around here and quite frankly there's nothing Porsche oldtimers out there that can tickle me fancy for that kind of budget .. 944's aren't going to do much for me when I have the Cayman. same for 914's , just seem overpriced for what they are compared to the Cayman. Forget 911's and well i already have the 250 horses Cayman, so for fast driving, i'm covered. So the Fulvia.. it's soooo elegant..And that V4 sounds so good The outside seams on a Mini is just a cheap construction side effect to me.. I can't stand the look of it :D Also hate the dashboards, I could never own that the Fulvia is the complete opposite. |

The ghosting is pretty cool though ..

I am just glad to see it painted.

A guy I know used to own one.
If you were very quiet, you could hear it rust.. |

I thought it started out as a rally car., guess that changed along the lines somewhere.

Started as a Rally Car, but once Nik was let loose on brackets, and they conversed extensively over tea, the possibility of stuffing into a tree became a more honest conversation.
Prob decided they would rather see their efforts live a long life on the road instead of beat up on a course. Which is probably how Richard can make that comment. My guess. |
I think the seams is what keeps the whole car together!
So if they are not rallying it, be pretty tight for 2 grown men to cruise around in. My guess is it will be a show car that gets driven a bit. I could see it on Leno's Garage etc. |

"Hey, have you seen all the YouTube hits" "Uh oh. We've really done it now, Ollie" |
Just started binge-watching this last week. Holy frijoles Batman... these guys have some serious skills and it’s inspiring me to (finally) get my 911 out here and start getting into it. The fabrication skills are great but it’s more about thinking things through and being careful than it is having a zillion fancy tools. Most of the job (and I’m up to episode 16) are with basic grinders and a MIG (occasional press, drill press, chop saw and TIG use). Absolutely love what they’re doing! Inspirational!

Episode 34 is in the works!
" 1 day ago Those who didn't like the Old English White needn't have worried... We've not quite managed to finish episode 34 yet. There are some extenuating circumstances but no excuses, we've just not managed to get the work done fast enough. It's possible we might be able to upload next weekend but if we're honest, with the problems we've still got, it's likely to be the week after. " Withdrawal is rough! Best Les |
^Yea, definitely want to make it to the finish line.
I do want to hear and see it running. |
I don’t know, this project has drug on so long I’m not sure I care whether it gets finished or not.
|
New drop today. They're actually starting the reassembly....
|
Oh.
Yay. |
Lots of lovely details...

I thought there were things being installed that I didn't remember them fabricating.
Or maybe it was so long ago I forgot. |
Wow so much work just to get heat & a/c where/when you might them. !!
And kudos for completing a complete episode without getting their hands dirty  ....word of warning - don't use that Dynamat anywhere around where there's a possibility of elevated heat. |
The boys are back!

My OCD kicks in watching these guys.
Was it just me that thought they'd find a reason not to put the motor in? |
OCD?
I didn’t see them use a torque wrench in that episode, for all those important nuts and bolts… |
I think Rod was referring to his OCD.
Looking at that wiring loom made me think of the hours that went into the whole process. Amazing what you can cram into the confines of a Mini. Best Les |
