Graphics on a 911

So, I used to restore older GM products and absolutely hate to see clones, tribute cars or cars just badged as an SS, RS, Z/28 etc

I see people with their 911's that have Carrera graphics, RS etc and it doesn't seem to bother anyone. Is this something that is acceptable in the Porsche world?

Personally I like the graphics but would be afraid that someone would look at my car and bash me for calling it a Carrera.

What do you care what others think?

Put whatever you want on there. If someone gives you s***, tell them to suck it.

I posted this response in the tech forum:

IMO, unless the person is trying to claim it is real, I don't have an issue with it. If done tastefully it can look great. Purists may poo-poo it but real gearheads may appreciate the look.

I saw a 65(I think) LeMans go through the Mecum auction this weekend which was a total clone of the GTO. The seller didn't hide and the car looked great.

I wouldn't have them on my car, but I do on my bikes. Reminds me, I've been meaning to track down an Agip sticker for my Ducati.

I wasn't sure where to post a question like that so I did it in both places

No biggie(not that I am anyone of importance.)

Some tech guys don't visit here and vice-versa.

I think it's a great question.

People care to much what others think. When your car with graphics spurs conversation, tell it's story, it will most likely be just as interesting to your audience as if the car was an actual "XYZ" the graphics say it is.

Every car has a story, tell it with passion. That's all that matters.

Speaking of GM--

My 78 Camaro was a plain LT version. I love the 70-73 cars BUT hated the biga$$ 3 piece rear spoiler. Since mine had no factory spoiler I added the 1 piece low-rise version.

When folks pointed out that it was "wrong" I agreed with them and my usual reply was that I liked it and it's MY car.

The 911 is one of the few cars that looks good with graphics IMO. It really is hard to go wrong as long as you don't over do it.

If you like Dark Green...I have P-O-R-S-C-H-E side graphics you can have.

After a fellow Pelican did some PhotoShop work, I decided I don't want them.

On early cars I like those little period correct looking Shell Oil stickers that go on just in front of the door.

Actually, I like it with the graphics. I guess beauty IS in the eye of the beholder.

I have been looking for the rocker stripes for my white 86 944 and have been looking at the ones for the 911s. I really like the light grey stripe with black "Porsche" lettering, and I also like the Dark grey stripe, with red "Porsche" lettering. The red would match my interior.

I will also be tinting the windows and may add a small chin spoiler lip. I'm not concerned with what others say about these non stock mods, I want it the way I want it.

That is the whole point I think, make your car what YOU want.

I agree, it looks a lot better with the Porsche script down the side. Beautiful car either way.

Who cares what others think, it's YOUR car. Do what you want and have fun. My only real objection is when you try to pretend that your base model 996 is a GT3 because you added some stickers and badges.

I have a '78 Targa...with all black window trim and a bare stainless targa bar.

Why, because it's what I like and you almost never see it. Plus, it connects the '78 with the style of the new 991 Targa

I also bought brand new lug nuts, rolled them in ashes and sat them in my fireplace for 30 minutes...that's another story

Beautiful car Craig. I like the PORSCHE down the side, but it's beautiful either way.

That's what is so nice about hot rods, mid-years, and you Pelican guys. Nobody here will tell you…"You have the wrong plating on the fender bolts for a 73"…Or, "Why do you have Carrera side script on an SC?" (unlike another forum close by )
