I say no, it should not be illegal to chose not to hire someone who chooses tattoos or body alterations. The government has plenty to do without coming into our businesses and sinking us in this legal quagmire.

That is ridiculous, know one should be able to discriminate against someone for colour, gender etc as these are not choices....tattooing is a personal choice people make knowing the possible repurcussions including an potential impact to emplyability.

I'd say tattoos that are not visible under the employee's normal work clothing should not be permissible grounds for termination or non hiring.

If you can't say a tattoo is inappropriate, how could you say clothing is?

These people clearly want attention, so telling them to cover them up will just cause another claim of discrimination.

Not a federally protected right. In employment at will you can fire or not hire for any reason outside those that are protected. Certainly depends on the job. White collar, blue collar, entertainment industry...

Wouldn't take a lawyer more than 5 minutes to make a "well those are religious tattoos" claim in their discrimination lawsuit.

I joked around with my parents when I turned 18 that I was going to get tattoo sleeves and of course my mom freaked out, but my dad simply said "you can do what you want, but temporary pain isn't the only repercussion and you better think long and hard about what the other ones are" Seems like a good general life lesson to me

There can be no simple black & white rule one size fits all rule about it.

There is a real difference between some crazy with their face all covered in tats and piercings and some retired Marine with a tattoo on his shoulder of his units logo.
