Congrats on your 240Z / S30 purchase! Awesome car, is this the one that was on Bring A Trailer recently?

I've had my current Z car for 14 years and very much enjoy it and tinker with it, currently has a very healthy L31 Turbo set-up.

As mentioned previously, depending on how much you wanted to spend and your hp goals, things can add up quickly. The support, forums and aftermarket parts are excellent, so know you're in good company.

If I were to get another Z, it would be a 70-72 240Z, that I would then build a motor. Start with a 2.8L block wioth balenced pistons, build up a turbo P-90 head with better valves, and port/polish it along with a mild cam, ceramic coated header, weber setup carbs, lightweight aluminum flywheel, billet crank pulley, aluminum driveshaft, with 3.90 gears and a later 5 speed trans.

That car at 2400 lbs with 225-250 HP would run with almost anything coming out of Detroit., and look far better doing it.

If you want to go crazy, look at Rebello motors, or Skyline RB 26dett inline 6 motors....scary HP potential.

yeah, it's that one, was also on local LA craigslist. I drove it hard and inspected to the best of my ability. I was able to knock the price down a bit, but some of the BAT comments are interesting. For a 44 year old car it's in pretty darn good condition. Time will tell if I over paid.

Beauty.

My Dad had a 260Z. When we'd drive from Escondido to El Centro, when I was little he'd let me sit in his lap and "drive the car." I remember him saying, "If I see a highway patrolman, I'll say 'duck' and your job is get below the level of the window so he does not see you." Good times.

My wife had a 280 in college. Might have to get one of these one of these days...

SBC, someone had to say it

I kid! I kid!

It would be a shame to convert that car, if it were mine I would follow your plan, do some tasteful mods to carbs and suspension and drive the heck out of it!

Congrats one the purchase.

There's a guy locally that swapped the LS1 from a C5 Corvette into his 240Z. The motor is built and north of 400 HP, full EFI. He also did brakes and suspension, so it's a bit of a rocket. Very professionally done.

Looks like you got a really nice example of an early Z. If there's next to no rust you got a great example. Having the original motor in the car doesn't mean to the Z community what it seems to mean to the 911 or 356 community although that may change if values really get a bounce. If you haven't checked out Classic Zcar Club HybridZ or zcars.com I would recommend it, a wealth of knowledge on 1st gen Zs. If you can get a 5-speed I recommend it if yours doesn't have one, makes road trips more pleasant. Another swap I made which is somewhat common is the front brake calipers/rotors with the Toyota, 300ZX swap.

Congratulations on a great find.

Bud of mine sent me a cellphone pic of a 240z at a friend's detail shop. Said it's supposed to go to some sort of charity auction.
He's supposed to get back with me on details.
Any of you Z-car guys know about this?

Yup some of the BAT comments are ridiculous, best bet to ignore them.

Congrats again.

Best choice of all the cars you were looking at, congratulations on finding such a great car! I've had many and there's no better bang for buck classic lightweight car.

Congrats on you nice looking score, I like it lots! And agree with you thoughts of minor mods and fun driving it.

There are other ways possible too, but don't let me confuse you.

Cheers Richard

By quoting him you have doubled the number of invisible images they use for traffic. Embedded in his post, and your quote are: [u rl]ht tp://ehealth[/url] woman com/apple/images/3 4.gif

If you quote these multi-consonant members, always take out their URLs or add spaces to destroy the link.

I'm guessing Wayne doesn't care about these guys, it wouldn't take much to create a script that would auto detect and delete them.

Congrats on your 240Z and welcome to the slippery slope.

I've had mine for about 28 years now ... it's an absolute blast. L28, flat top pistons, head work, cam, 5 speed, 3x webbers, big brakes, rear disks, LSD, coilovers, adj. shocks, urethane bushings everywhere ...

I liked it so much, I built a convertible version, about 15 years ago, same specs as my blue one ...

You will have a blast playing around with your Z ... enjoy the ride!!
