I often wonder what will happen to Trigger.

Will it go on display at someplace like the Smithsonian or be put in the box with Willie.

It conflicts me because both seem appropriate.

I'd rather see it on display but that's up to Willie.

We saw Willie just a few weeks ago, a couple days after returning home from NAMM.
One of very few country guys I really like.

Willie doesn't sing much like he used to any more, but it was a beautiful show.

I vote RnR hall of fame or Smithsonian.

I lived "whisky river" for a few years (kids, don't try this at home)

I know Trigger was in hiding for a while when the taxman was after Willie.

There is something about a well worn in guitar. A lot of people are into the relic thing nowadays, where you buy a new guitar that has been "aged". I think that's bulls**t.

My dad's main guitar was a 70's Aria acoustic, scored it off a heroin dealer for $75. he wore that thing down to the point where he had to fill the bridge cracks with JB Weld to keep it playable. He'd never take it to a luthier. I have the guitar and I can't play it. The frets are flat, the neck is warped and there's a hole worn through the top from a pick. Yet he could make that thing sing.

My stepmom bought him a nice Martin a few years before he died, but the Aria sounded better. I dont intend on fixing the guitar. I might get it re-fretted, but thats about it.

When it was sorta new...

My wife also said RnR hall of fame but I think that would be beneath it.

Got me thinking, is there any other singular instrument as well known as Trigger tied to a cultural icon of willies stature?

There are many Lucilles, Brian May is great but not on Willies level in terms of cultural icon and I believe he now has multiple copies of the Red Special.

Maybe Pearly Gates but Billy regularly plays ther guitars.

I think Trigger is unique and Smithsonian would be fitting.

Wonderful documentary - thanks for sharing. I don't know much about Willie, so I learned something.

The best thing for an instrument is to continue to get played. But I learned from the documentary that trigger has a very distinct sound. Who would want to take that over / introduce it to their sound? So it isn't like a Stradivarius you pass down to another violinist ...

I need to get a tour bus like his.

Frankenstrat is Iconic but like SVR's Strat, Claptons Blackie, Bruce's Telecaster, they did not define the artists sound.

Willie has played Trigger and only trigger for over 50 years.

You're gonna put Springsteen on the level of EVH, SRV and Willie?

Sure, where in the hierarchy he lands is personal opinion but he certainly was a major musical and cultural influence.

I tossed him in there for the conversation because he is a readily recognizable figure associated with a specific instrument, his tele.

I think this one belongs in the group of iconic guitars that might actually outshine the musician or at least are apart of them.

I wouldnt say Bruce is instantly recognized for playing a tele in the same way Jimmy Page is for playing a Les Paul.

When you see Carlos play he has a rack of identical PRSs.

Each one has a number on the back of the head stock. 1-9 last time I saw him.
