UPS loses $10,000 package...
My turns for a UPS rant!
I had to buy a new piece of machinery recently. It was due to arrive today. "Out for Delivery" posted on the UPS site. Whoohoo! right? riiight?? My UPS driver comes, and I go out to him and tell him that I assumed he had a large wooden crate for me today. He looks at his pad, then at me, and says... it should be on my truck, but it isn't. Wha? ![]() I call UPS at about 1:30PM. I'm supposed to get a call buy 3PM. They don't call. I call back at 5PM. They say... we'll call by 6:30. They don't call. ![]() UPS people state they can't find the crate, according to the messages sent back by the depot. large. wooden. crate. A little smaller than a bathtub. whoaboy... where's my $10,000 package? ![]() OK, here's the update. It arrived. That smashed it a bit. This is the damage I see so far. Further update. It will not boot. ![]() ![]() ![]()

I bought a Rolex from some place I think in Dalles a few years ago and UPS lost it in the airport. The shop I bought it from alerted me the same day, because it was overnight, and UPS BSd me for a couple days before they admitted it. By then I had already got my refund from the shop.

FedEx lost a driveshaft I needed. I found it hard to believe that they couldn't locate a seven foot tall, skinny box, but I suspect that's because I have no idea what the volume of boxes is that they have to deal with is.

They paid the insurance claim on the 356 door they dented. They somewhat admitted that the damaged was intentional admitting that there was no way in the transport chain that it could happen naturally.
Good luck on your crate, it's big so they'll find it.

anything over $5000 is considered high value and they take extra steps to keep track of it (if possible it is placed in a white/red candy striped bag) If it was declared and insured I wouldn't worry about it other than the delay you will be taken care of

It's big, I suspect it will turn up. They delivered 3 of 4 wheels and tires from Tire Rack to me a few years ago, they found the last one a few days later. If it were a little $10k package I would be concerned.

Some of these packages probably end up in someone's basement who either didn't want to deliver it and wanted it for themselves....rather like the U.S. Post Office employees.

We use UPS at work a lot. We get good service from them.
They use our dock to transfer packages between trucks. One truck drops off a bunch of packages, later in the day another truck loads them up and takes them. We see all kinds of stuff, lots of wheels and tires, big screen TV's. Our dock area is very safe and theft here is essentially unheard of. If they are doing this sort of thing other places, I could see how high value packages could quickly disappear. One advantage is that we get multiple shipments every day and the drivers go out of their way for us. |

A company I work with shipped an electric bike prototype and an irreplaceable prototype NiMH battery pack in separate boxes via FedEx overnight.
The battery never got there, and FedEx had no info. We later found out DHS had intercepted it and had destroyed it. Not even as much as a 'we're sorry.' And FedEx disclaimed responsibility because of DHS intervention. So, that happens. |

They actually end up in a dead freight house, Its called O,S,D freight (Overs, Shorts and damaged) Most of UPS Stuff comes to Kansas City, where it sits in a warehouse as they try to match it to the claims. After it sits for 6 months it's released and sold at auction. That's where I come in. I buy the crap and re-sell it all over the internet. On a big dollar claim they will work pretty hard to find it. As for the number of packages they see everyday it's mind boggling. If they pay the claim PM Me what it is and I will keep an eye out for it. You never it may turn up. I put a caterpillar Buldozer cam shaft on eBay and a few days later I got an email from the original owner/shipper. I made him a great deal on it.

I had to make an insurance claim at work with UPS because they lost a radome in shipment. This is a box about 4'x4'x4' so no little piece. 3 YEARS later they delivered it without a word, just dropped it off. Insuarance had paid for the loss 36 months before when we made the claim, so we ended one Radome up, but how big must their buildings be for that piece to sit around for 3 years before delivery unnoticed?

It's amazing how some of their stuff just goes into limbo then shows up out of thin air. I buy stuff from them every week that still has the address and phone numbers on them. One of the coolest things I saw was One of the USPS Postal service Pro Cycling team bike. This was around 1998 when carbon fiber was just unheard of on a bike. It was so trick. I wanted it so bad. The funny thing was it still had the guys name and address on it.

UPS works for me.
FedEx Sucks. Shipped a whole entire 1982SC 911 front fender, the complete fender, via Grey Hound, as it was oversized for other shipping options. grey hound lost it. Box was the size of a small refrigerator. paid me only $100 insurance, 3 days after they did that the fender showed up on the east coast. shrug. go figure. sheet happens.

Anyone is allowed to make a mistake.
A business shines when they make up for it. They should be avoided if they do not.

Update: It's on the truck officially. Apparently, it never made it off the cargo transport when it got to the hub.
Camera pointed out window. We'll see if he mangles it getting it of the truck. Perhaps I should help him...
