That shredded flesh reminds me of what I saw the other day at our local beach. A couple long distance swimmers were working out, when one had both feet chomped (ripping his left foot off completely) by a large Tiger shark. Ugly.

Thank you Capt. Buzz Kill!

Anyway...

The seal got to it before it was visible to me from the boat. When the Bonita hit my line it hit hard and fast and I was hoping so much it was a yellow tail. It was putting up a nice fight and may be one of the biggest Bonita I've ever caught but as I was bringing it in and probably just past visual range in the water it felt like god grabbed my line and gave it a tug. Drag meant nothing...line was spooling out quickly and I couldn't even turn the crank. Finally I was able to turn it again but this happened easily two more times.

Then I got it within visual and I could see the silver of the fish and a huge green/brown blob right behind it.

The seal. I seemed to have gotten his fish so I threw it back to him.

Caught a few other nice sized Bonito and took home half a yellow tail I split with the buddy I went out with. Had some tonight and it was amazing!

Tangier Sound around the river mouths. Lots of 17-19" fish but we happened on a massive school (the screen was almost entirely giant red arches) of 22-25" fish on our way back to the ramp.

I'm told they are thick in the coastal bays as well.

I could see that brown close to shore about 30 feet out. Just laying there breathing, waiting. I threw a couple of different wooly buggers at her...nothing. Threw an elk hair Caddis...nothing. So I threw a blue wing olive so it rested on the bank. I let it sit there for a minute and hopped it into the water. She exploded on it. The rest is history. Took a while after I put her back for my adrenaline levels to return to normal.

It has to stay at the top of the board until 1:00 this afternoon, but I am currently at the top of the standings for one of the major local fishing derbies! It's a REALLY big fish for this time of year.
