HP sucks donkey balls.

HP sucks donkey balls. Ten years ago I ordered 5 computers. They ALL had problems......swore I would never order from them again. Sent them all back.....This is the company that date stamped printer cartridges so you couldn't refill them. Even off the shelf cartridges if sitting to long would cease to function. Rotten Bastards. The tech support was always "Bob" from Mumbai....gotta be the accent I hate most.....they get get pissed when you can't understand THEM.....

Recently my trusty Dell Inspiron was giving me end of life signs. The GF convinced me to try HP one more time.....ordered a laptop, HAD to have a backlit keyboard (since LASIK I can't see in low light)......other things not pertinent to my rant.

Got a good deal, 1200 delivered and a 3 year warranty. Took them a month to get it built as I wanted Windows 7...8 sucks. I get an email that it was shipped. FedUP allows for online tracking. Told me to expect a Monday delivery. No other notice. FedDouche shows up on Friday....leaves a note that it is to be returned. Drove 45 minutes to pick it up at the terminal. No local number to confirm it was there. Construction....they moved. Two blocks west.

Open the box....no backlight, mouse refuses to connect, W7 has 137 files to back up. I call HP support, "Bob" from Mumbai answers.....same ****er.....he said they don't offer a backlit keyboard......just ****ing kill me.

Needless to say, it's getting returned.

Oh, there is worse. Sony. I have never dealt with more belligerent scum. It has admittedly been a while, but thats for a reason. Those SOBs would do ANYTHING to get out of repairing their JUNK laptops under warranty. In the company that I worked for at the time, sales staff were given a budget to get themselves a laptop, but it was made crystal clear that they were not allowed to buy Sony. The only vendor we banned outright!

Dell is an obvious choice, but I have had great experiences with Asus. Macs are great as well. I'm typing this on my 5 year old MacBook Pro. And yes, it has a nice backlit keyboard.

There have been times recently that when someone in customer service asks me 'how I'm doing" I tell them. Respectfully but I draw it out. Maybe because I know they really don't care and I am being a dick but after a minute of me going on about life, liberty and personal comfort I ask them how they are. Seems like those in customer service are always 'fine'. I guess customer service is a good job because everyone is fine...

I may just be lucky, but every Thinkpad I have bought, since '01 still works.
They are not flashy but functional.
I don't think I could ever own a laptop without a trackpoint mouse, can't stand that mouse pad thing.

Similar experience with an HP laptop, after three warranty claims I said never again. I've had great luck with Asus, and Sony. Currently have a Lenovo that is a buggy POS with a terrible keyboard.

Lenovo? Maybe it's just the spyware that is making it a POS. Is yours affected?

The wife's HP was terrible. The charging port failed so we bought a dock, then eventually the dock connector failed. Every HP printer we've owned has clogged if not used extremely regularly (granted this is more of an inkjet problem in general). No more for us.

Nope, I already checked. The keyboard is crap, it takes a very firm push and already some keys are less than responsive. It is prone to being very buggy, though that may be POS Win 8 that I have made tolerable with Start 8. I considered a Mac and cheaped out (though it was still $650), I won't make that mistake again.

My experience was just the opposite- replaced my Dell with a 23" HP all in one- smokin' deal at Staples - less than $400- no problems & got rid of the clutter under my desk- gave my sister my Dell laptop & she said it has now taken a $hit. I guess you never know until it happens to you. I do have a gripe about my Epson printer as it tries to sell me ink every time I use it.

Dammm Joe Bob, there are a few things that were done wrong with the latest laptop purchase and I tell my students there are some simple rules to follow.
- Don't buy mail order technology, find a shop you can trust and I do not mean Fry's or Best Buy! I have dealt with a small and very honest shop run by a Korean family for 22 years and they are great!
- Don't get burned.....if the last thing you bought was junk, why expect another of the same brand to be any better?
- Never listen to a wife or girl friend especially if she gives computer advice unless she is a project manager for Oracle or Microsoft or Apple.
- Always do an online search of what you are planning to buy and trust 50% or less of the reviews. There are several good sites that you can generally trust such as CNET, Toms Hardware and PCworld. There are probably others but since I retired I am slipping away from these things.

In my experience major manufactures have two different product lines. You see fewer issues with the business line of products.
Examples: HP elitebook vs pavilion, Dell latitude vs inspiron, IBM/Lenovo Thinkpad T/X vs G/S/Y.
I don't think the corporate world would put up with the high failure rate of some of the product lines

I have a Lenovo X1 Carbon. Been great for 2 years. I probably gonna get the next version in a year.

Super light, but computer is not upgradable...RAM is soldered to the MB to minimize the weight and keep it thin. Also, Battery is "inside", not removable, except through disassembly.

Oi.....it's NOT the performance, it's the wrong delivery and "Mumbai Bob" calling me a liar. If I have to put a box in for repair at delivery after waiting a month for it, screw dat.

Been carrying Lenovo's for the past 6 years all around the planet, all have been bulletproof. I think I have 7 floating around the house R60 to W540.
