No note, no class. That's a bummer.
Happened to me a few years ago and the guy took off. Later he returned to the scene of the crime and an old lady who lived on an upper floor recorded the plate and left me a note!

Well at least now your hood resembles some of those on tubs with a case of gas station attendee-itis!

That really sucks. I had a guy do a hit and run one night on the family van parked out front our house.....He wasn't so lucky as his front license plate had fallen off right there on the ground behind my smashed up van!!!!

I drove my 914 for over 20 years. In those years all 4 fenders got smashed while I was not in the car. Every time was expensive to repair and I never even got the note "everyone watching thing am leaving you my contact info but screw you rich Porsche driver"
The dents happened in different parts of town over the years.

Measure at the lowest part of the scrape. That's their rear bumper height.
Make a quick measuring stick.
Even a stick on a pole for a passenger.
The road surface looks flat and level so it will probably be accurate.

There was black paint transfer. It's probably still on their bumper.

There is a good chance they live in the area.
If many parking spaces were open on the street, it's a good chance the house in front is suspect.
(if not their vehicle then ask if they had any contractors).

Vincent Bugliosi, the Los Angeles prosecutor who got the conviction against Charles Manson, wrote a simple dismissal of the common belief that people are inherently good and tend to do the right thing--want to do the right thing. I paraphrase.

If you came out of the mall to find your car damaged and a note on the window with the other driver's name and phone number you would be surprised, especially if you called the number, the person answered, admitted that they hit your car, were in a hurry and would be glad to pass along insurance information so as to get your car repaired. The reason you would be surprised is that people who do this are extraordinarily rare. It is not human nature to admit wrongdoing, it is human nature to flee, to look around for a witness, not see any and quickly drive away. Therefore I do not subscribe to the popular idea that people are inherently good.

Granted, he was an L.A. prosecutor and had seen a lot of sh it in his career, but that does explain human behavior. Most of the time.

People are why I like cats.

Backed out of a driveway at an open house and into a brand new Audi.

Despite the fact that the car was parked in a spot that was nearly impossible to see it and I did not consider it to be entirely my fault I promptly pulled back in and went back into the house to find the owner.

Gave her all my info. Asked her to get a couple of quotes and I'd take care of it.

Later that day her husband called. A bit upset, naturally. "How do I know you'll take care of it..... Going to call my insurance..... Police report.....etc...

Told him "let me come over and meet you to put you at ease"

Wife and I take a ride over and after a few tense moments he starts to relax.

Long story short we hung out for over 2 hours, killed a couple of bottles of wine and had a great time.

Life is as difficult as people chose to make it.
