Pirelli falls into Chinese hands...

Pirelli, the world’s fifth largest tire manufacturer, is to be sold to state-owned chemical conglomerate ChemChina, with a deal expected to be concluded this summer. According to Autmotive News Europe, ChemChina will initiate the takeover by acquiring a 26.2-percent share in the Italian tire maker. A public tender offer for the remaining shares will follow. The deal is worth 7.1 billion euros in total, or around $7.7 billion, and will give the Chinese firm access to premium tire technology.

I haven't liked Pirelli products for a long time anyway, at least now maybe they will be cheap.

I have Pirelli P ZEROs on my 944 right now and the back ones are down to 15% tread. I was actually looking at replacing with more Pirellis, but not now. I work for Bridgestone and would like to put the RE-11s all the way around for doing track days, autocross, and summertime commuting.

Yeah, way hotter than the dogs they've been using all these years. At least if you close one eye and hit yourself really hard in the head with a hammer until you pass out.

Remember guys, companies (and other property) do not "fall" into someone's hands (China). Someone sells it to someone else. People say those damn _______ are buyin' up all our _____. Yes, because we sell it to them.

Well, so much for that brand. Like(d) P-Zeros but I expect they'll be junk in a couple of years.

Right now the ONLY tire I can find to fit my 15 inch Fuchs (7&8s) on my 1985 911 is the Pirelli P-6000 and they are two pretty much the stock OEM size and double the price of the current tires.

I hope they plan to keep making those.

I had P-zeros on my 993 and thought they sucked. They looked pretty, but wore out very fast and were noisy.

I hope their tire tolerance is better then a lot of their other ideas of measurements...
Ever try one of their lathes?
Tools?
Its a serious discrepancy to deal with.
LOL

You get what you pay for.

Demand quality and pay for it, and China can produce a quality product. Stipulate a 96% success rate is acceptable, and they'll pull from bins of "bad parts" and put them in 4% of their assemblies. Stipulate 100%, you won't get that treatment, but you'll pay.
