I have a V1...that's been sitting in a drawer in my shop for two years. Should probably get off my behind and sell it. Haven't had a ticket in 25 years using common sense.

I have not either ( a ticket)
Now a days i see people blasting past me doing 80 plus (interstate ) I see them hit their brakes . Sure enough there sits the trap. The detectors must be working for them as i see this action on county roads too.

I use an Escort with the Escort live feature. It connects to your smartphone. Your radar detections are then stored on the internet and you have access to other people's data. It allows you to "look down the road".

I have the V1. I just sent it back in to be updated to the latest and greatest software. The new cars and trucks on the road use radar in the cruise control and space distance features and just clog up the radar with false alarms. The update helped, but there are still tons of false alerts. I just don't think there are 4 cops in front and 5 behind at a time all blasting radar.
I only use my radar detector on road trips. It has saved me from a few revenue traps over the last 14 years of road trips. I have driven out to California 3 times, the east coast twice, Salt Lake City, Colorado and Michigan and Hershey PA and more. Radar detectors may will become totally useless due to the new cars and trucks emitting so much radar.

Having owned V1's for probably close to 20 years, I have two that are for sale. I switched to the Escort Passport with the GPS false alarm lock out. You drive past the same location and frequency three times and it remembers it and does not go off in the future in that location. I think that I have an 8500 and a 9500ix. Run those with Waze and it is fantastic. If I hop in one of my cars that has the V1's in them I never even turn them on as they are incredibly annoying with the false alarms from other cars, door openers, etc. The V1's go off continually. The Escort's only go off when there is a real threat. Thought that I would miss the directional arrows, but I don't.

I currently own a Whistler, CR90- it's OK, but forgets it's preferences constantly, and is kind of gimmicky and, well cheap. Gonna try a Escort next.

I have the escort passport 8500 x50 with direct wire smartcord wired to my fusebox. Had it 1 year and I love it.
Even though I'm not much of a speeder, I like having some idea of where the cops are Quote:

V1 is the only way to go.
Why would you want this?: "You drive past the same location and frequency three times and it remembers it and does not go off in the future in that location." There's cops here that will sit in the same spot for days, then nothing for weeks, just to come back to the exact spot. Escorts just beep, arrows are the only way to go. Can you send escorts back to get updated now? When I had mine you couldn't. |

CHICKS,
Just sharing my observations having both and having been a V1 fan for a LONG time. The proliferation of the sensors in cars that sets the V1 off, primarily in Audi's, of which there are many where I live, make the V1 unusable. If behind and Audi the false alarms go off non stop for miles. Not sure if Valentine has an update for this, but I had one of mine updated 6 months ago and no improvement. You can override the lock out on the escort if it is a real threat. After "seasoning" the escort for a week or so it is so quiet driving is enjoyable again. I believe that the escorts can be updated on their website via a USB cable making it unnecessary to send it in. I think that the range is better on the V1's but I find the escort to be adequate and even at high speeds have not had any close calls. The Redline from Escort has better range but no GPS lockout for false alarms. It also does not come programmed for the sensors in cars but does have a programming change integrated in it that can be activated to minimize these annoyances. Just my 2 cents. |

V1 Rules! Just saved my ass a few weeks ago going up the Snake. I heard one blip, slowed down and then saw the CHP SUV coming down the twisties. Trees and turns I still got warned.
also, most cops sneak up on you from behind and the V1 is the only detector that can pick it up as it shoots behind and in front of you. I did disable x and k band as they're useless and you know if lazer goes off on freeways its just some Audi. Just my experience..
