NGD - SIG Sauer content.

Make that new guns, as in plural.

I fondled the P320 at SHOT in January and was floored by how smooth the trigger felt, though its spec sheet says 5.5 lbs., which is the same as my Glock 22 and FN FNS. But this thing pulls like butter. Then they had a 556 Patrol and I had been shopping for a 551, but could never see one in person. Besides, the 551 isn't compatible with standard AR mags and the 556 is. I couldn't carry the rifle home on my bike (a common problem with Saturday afternoon impulse buys), so I went back to get it today. Once I get some rounds through the P320, it will likely replace the FNS as my daily carry gun.

Nice! Is the P320 a polymer frame?

Yes, it's a tupperware striker-fired gun. Soooo much more comfortable in my hand than a Glock. I don't know how this gun can't finally knock Glock off the number one spot. It costs less, feels better, has a nicer trigger and is convertible to other frame sizes. Maybe SIG will finally get serious about marketing this one, unlike their SIG Pro series guns, which were kick-ass, but totally ignored by SIG's marketing folks (whom I need to call tomorrow for my job).

Nice. My P250 had a junk trigger, so I'm glad to hear that their other polymer products aren't bad.

Peter, I thought you are allowed to buy this sort of stuff if you belong to a gun club?

Here in NZ we can buy whatever we want as long as you have a lawful reason such as a competition shooter at a gun club. To have a pistol licence I have to go to a gun club at least 12 times a year. Assault rifles are called E category and we need to have a safe for them and either be a collector or shoot in 3-gun competitions.

As a collector I'm allowed to buy pistols, assault rifles, anti aircraft, full auto, Bren guns, Vickers machine guns - all in fully working order. I'm just not allowed to fire them.

I thought you guys rules were much the same?

Bill

We are only allowed single shot rifles or double barrel shotguns now. No semi auto. They were banned back in the 90s after the Port Arthur Massacre.
There was no change to Pistol licencing but they've always been heavily controlled.

To get a licence here is difficult and the state Police commissioner gets the final say.
You have to be an active member of a gun club and to own anything you actually have to compete in events for that weapon. If not you can't hold onto them.

I'm not sure what restrictions Collectors have but I'm sure they are very heavily controlled and to get a collectors licence would be really difficult.

After Port Arthur the local legal gun market basically collapsed. Lots and lots of guns were handed in and destroyed and most of the smaller gun shops closed down.

Ironically Illegal weapons have become really expensive and easily available through your local "connected" drug dealer or whatever.
For instance a full auto AR15 would cost you about $30,000.

That's a little over what they would cost here to get legally, but an illegal conversion would be trivial.

I put 100 rds. through the P320 today and it runs like a top. Super accurate, smooth trigger, very comfy in hand. Love this gun. Still waiting on optics to arrive before I take the 556 out.

Why must you post things like this? Love the 556. I'm jealous.

556s are cheap now. Got mine for $899. SIG superseded it with the 556xi, so the older ones are cheap. Can't wait to shoot it. It feels very tight and solid.

I think 16" is all they have for the non-class III folks.
