Sirius/XM users, happy?

I got a free Sirius trial with my Mercedes. I was planning on signing up. I like a number of the stations, and it's nice to have commercial free music.

But as with all things, I figured it would be wise to check with the PPOT braintrust. Any negatives I should be aware of?

Thank you.

I'd be lost without my Sirius.

I liked it but too $$$ so I let it expire... just FYI if you cancel the service they will send you emails begging you to come back and cutting their price... you may want to call and haggle for the "we want you back" price.

Content is great. Sound quality leaves a LOT to be desired.

I live, as I have said before, about a nine iron from the edge of culture. The terrestrial radio stations here have about as many songs in their rotation as the San Fransisco Giants have starting pitchers.

I couldn't live without it. Smoke on the water, baby.

I have to admit it kicks a$$ on road trips!

Had it since about 2001. When the merger happened the playlist shrunk a little and more on air personalities. But I have since forgotten about that. I listen every day. Always something new to find

Sound quality is pretty poor in my car too.

Since it is not worth $15/month to me, I just let my sub lapse and they cancel it. Within a week, I have them calling me asking to renew and I re-up for 6 months for $31 or so all fees included. The key is to tell them that the credit card is for one time use only so they don't charge you the full price when your sub is up for renewal.

Wifey has it, her drive to work has piss poor regular reception. She calls them when they want to change her introductory rate and she threatens to cancel it. They fold and she pays something like $9/month now.

I have it in my new truck and enjoy it immensely. The outlaw country station is my favorite so far. My brother loves it and I believe he negotiated a year for $89. I'll do the same.

My wife's new car had it, it just expired this week. It was pretty good like others have said on road trips but when it dropped we noticed a couple other things went missing. No more traffic updates for one. She listens to the radio more than me so she might get it if they ask her nice. Me, I don't care, I would just as soon listen to the car.

My only gripe is it doesn't work when I am under a bridge.

Oh and Internet streaming is extra.

So, you get it free for x months. They have your address and phone number. They will send you an offer letter. They will call you. Ignore the first and second offer, if they do come, or let it expire. If they don't call, call them about an offer you received in the mail (even if you haven't received one).

Their best offer would be something like 25 bucks plus tax for six months for basic channels. Take it. They will say at the end of six months, they will charge you 120 bucks for another six months and you must say yes.

Mark something on your calendar a day before the end of six months, and call them to cancel, telling them it's too expensive. Make sure to call them or your card will be automatically charged. They will offer you another six months for 25 bucks and the cycle repeats itself until they go bankrupt or start advertising more. (They do advertise, especially on the comedy channels.)

I've been on the 25 dollars for 6 months plan for a few years now. The day before my subscription is set to renew at the full 30/month price or whatever it is, I call to cancel, and they offer me another 6 months for 25 dollars. I'll take it for that, but doubt I'd pay full price for it.

We love it, have it in both our cars. Since we got it a few years back we don't spend $$ on iTunes anymore for music. Use Pandora for mobile and Sirius/XM in the cars. Living in CO it's nice in the mountains where there's poor/intermittent or no cell signal and also no standard radio signal.

I don't do the streaming at home, I think it's dumb that this costs extra since I already pay for two car subscriptions.

Sounds quality is better than regular radio but nowhere near MP3 or CD. My experience (having had Sirius/XM on 5 different cars) the sound quality is highly dependent on how the car radio is configured by the automaker. For example my Ford and Subaru's had no special settings for Sirius/XM and the sound quality was poor. My Silverado and S60 (current cars) have a bunch of special features (surround, equalizer, etc) under the Sirius/XM input that really helps the sound quality. The Silverado has a DVR type feature that lets you tag and record songs you like, also rewind, pause (for hours on end) and fast forward (only if you have rewound already), very cool.

I have a SOMEWHAT related question.

Is the Pandora for mobile better than Sirius? Is regular Pandora similar in audio to Pandora for mobile?

Are the music choices similar?

OK, that's 3 questions. I'm thinking about a streaming music channel for a retail environment. Think 80s high energy happy. We want to play music as commercial free as possible on the sales floor.

Had it since day one, all cars and my garage, can't live without it. But as mentioned the quality seems to be lacking these days.

I do the same thing. You don't get every channel but you get the vast majority.
