Awesome! There are a couple of red-tailed hawks that like to hang around the tall trees around my house and wait for the squirrels on the fence. It's always an interesting show.

We called our bird feeder the Cat feeder. We had a cat that would sit perfectly still waiting for a bird to land then jump up and swipe the bird from the feeder.
That's a cool pic. The other possibility is the hawk is thinking "what the hell? I can't land on that!" |

Well, that is a bird and you are feeding him. I don't understand the problem.

There's at least one Peregrine Falcon that considers my wife's bird feeder a bait station.
That bird seems to prefer mockingbirds - at least judging by the feather sprays we find in the yard. It's a spectacular show if you get to see the strike - like an explosion of feathers. Carry on! |

I have a bird feeder that stands about 6" tall & has a round steel base. We thought it would be great to have birds coming to feed. First, there was always a fight. One breed of little birds were a nasty bunch & would drive the others off. Then birds that did feed there knocked a bunch of the feed off onto the ground around the feeder. Because of that, gophers started burrowing around the base of the feeder to get the seeds. With the ground thoroughly perforated with gopher holes & tunnels, the feeder started to list. With all things considered, we quit feeding and just use the feeder as yard art now.

That would be a welcome change around here as the black bears just push or pull the entire feeder down and demolish it.
