AC Cobra nerf bars - form or function?

Does anyone know the rational behind the nerf bars used on AC Cobra's?

They look like they are built to serve a purpose - maybe receiving a jack?

Very different to the traditional VW style - which are either a straight bar or a curved bar (that somewhat follow the bodywork).

Over to the PPO brains trust.

Good question. I've always wondered about them.

I've always wanted a car that I could jack up like that.

Some of the GT40's had them too. It was a Ford Racing thing.

Cool! Never paid that much attention to them, thought they were decorative.

I replaced the quick jack receivers on my cobra with more street friendly hoops.

Having owned a cobra replica and been a part of that community - I can tell you that most replicas have them on backwards. They should curve back towards the car, not stick out from it.

The photo above shows this, but might be a bit small to see.

If you put them on backwards another problem is that you tend to run into them with your shins in the garage.

Same here, that's pretty cool that there's a practical racing reason behind them.
