Any Calif Drivers Read Up On SB350?

Hey all. I just received in the mail a political flyer regarding the Calif SB350. This flyer was sent to me from The Calif Drivers Alliance, Sacramento, Ca. I believe the meat and potatoes of this bill, called The Calif Gasoline Restriction Act of 2015, is a proposed law that will restrict the use of gasoline and diesel fuels by 50%.
The Calif Drivers Alliance is a project of WSPA ( Western States Petroleum Association). The flyer urges us to tell your legislature to vote NO on SB350. I will try and do my own research and urge everyone to do the same.
Thanks in advance, Bill.

Bill Analysis

Looks like they are pushing the state govt and agencies to, among other things, come up with a plan to reduce motor fuel use by 50% in 25 years. I suspect federal fuel economy standards and the turnover of the auto and truck fleet would already go a long way toward this. But I haven't done more than skim the bill.

To reduce emission, reduce fossil fuel use and promote alternative electrical generation and increase the demand for electric vehicles. But that's just a guess.

I predict soon that any new construction or expansion will require a roof full of solar panels.

None of it goes to funding alternative fuel sources. Currently 36 cents a gallon goes to the General Fund in sales tax.“Other Taxes" include a 1.4 cpg state UST fee (gasoline and diesel), a 2.25% state sales tax for gasoline, a 9.67% state sales tax for diesel, gasoline and diesel rates are rate + local sales tax

Actually, California state tax is published at 60.75 / gal. You may have some local tax on top of that. Federal is 18.4 / gal on top of that.

Hawaii is 63.50 / gal.

Here in PA we pay 70. / gal., so we are the highest in the nation. Most of that goes to fund official corruption.

When I go to Canada I pay about $1.00 / gallon more than here. This summer it was more like $1.50.

Why oh why are politicians so resistant to the notion of letting the market actually work? For crying out loud... It's times like these when I don't miss living in CA at all.

Yeah, when my wife cry's "why is gas so expensive here?" (she is from Oregon) I tell her it is because the gas costs the same but we have higher gas tax.

Dunno but that tax is supposed to go to fixing the roads (at least that is what they tell us ) and if you look at a map Cali has WAY more roads/hiways than your average state.

The "market" only cares about profit. Do you care about anything else?

And profit is the mechanism that causes resources to be allocated most efficiently. By interfering with the market, government causes the inefficient allocation of resources. In other words, stuff gets wasted when the government gets involved.

It is also going to pay for the person to pump your gas. It is like forcing every elevator to pay for a elevator operator. It is 100% a waste of money to force people to pay for someone else to operate a gas pump for them.

The market does not "care" about anything. It is the most effective way to obtain efficiency, thus far discovered.

This mandates reduced fuel consumption. It is more about getting people out of 2007 and older cars than anything else. It is about money and control, not necessarily in that order. It also has some pie in the sky verbiage about not using fossil fuels for energy generation, as if California has done any GD thing to increase generating capacity since Moonbeam was in short pants.

This is parfy, BTW

They let him think he is voting.

Given who the authors and co-authors of this thing are, it is going to create union jobs.
