E-cigarettes

I go to my favorite restaurant today and my buddy who owns the place has let a group of "Vapers" (their words) use the front of the place for a meeting to discuss their agenda to get their vice approved.

Smoking has been banned in public indoor places for a bunch of years here. You want to smoke, go ahead kill yourself. As a ex smoker it doesn't really bother me.

Well I walk in the door and the place stinks. I don't know who these "Vapers" think they are kidding but as far as I am concerned it smells as bad as smoking, possibly worse as it's a chemical smell. Maybe worse for you because it concentrates nicotine into the air.

There was about 35 people In the group and the waitress tells me everyone of them was vaping at the same time. She asked them to stop as the other customers were complaining about the smell and one a$$ clown decides to tell her it's his right to "vape". Mr. "It's my right" starts talking down to the waitress. Telling her she doesn't know anything (she actually has a degree on her wall) and the other waitress was ok with him vaping. And the owner "Jim" said it was ok. The owners name is actually Rick and this waitress lives with him and rules the roost. It was shortly just after this happened that I arrived.

I listened to there spiel about fund raising and how they can get the "message" out to the public. What a crock of chicken stuff.

It is just more trendy crap for the young ones to accumulate these days. Kind of like mindless sheep that get things because all their friends have them.

If it starts to get out of hand, I'll just keep a bottle of cheap, vile spray cologne at the ready and give as good as I get....

Smoking for people that are too big of pussies to really smoke - what did you expect?

I wondered what this trend was. Back when I was i college, I worked in a lumber mill. Now, in a lumber mill, smoking is a bad idea, but folks were allowed to smoke - in the break rooms.

I was the only guy in the crew that DIDN'T smoke. So lunchtime was a bit "hazy" for me - fourteen people smoking in a 10x15 room means a LOT of smoke. I am forever cured from wanting to smoke, or from minding at all about cigarette smoke. Aversion therapy, I think they call that.

Anyway, I have seen folks sucking on these things and breathing out some sort of vapor, but I had no idea what it was. Thanks for cluing me in.

go over and fart up the "vapers" meeting and blow one on "mr. it's my right" for good measure.

I used to smoke, and the last time I quit (2 yrs ago) it was a real battle. I ended up using Nicorettes. That did the trick

About 4 months ago I started craving again, real bad. I've been on the gum again ever since. I love it, and don't see myself quitting them anytime soon.

I have ZERO interest in the e cigs... I think they're goofy, but could understand if the ACT of smoking was important to someone. It wasn't for me... I just need my nicotine!

Technically it was legal, though, right? Presuming the proprietor allowed it?

There's no by-law or provincial law against it yet?

I vape. I tend to doubt that the vapors smell worse than smoke; might just have been your "defensiveness" against them doing it. I say this because while I am addicted to nicotine and cigarettes, I absolutely loathe the smell of them, while the stuff I use to vape actually smells damn good. I refuse to smoke in my home because of the stench. Vaping...actually makes the room smell like what I'm "smoking" (it smells like the candy Fireballs--very cinnamon). Granted, I've never been in a room with 35 people vaping...I guess that could get a little weird smelling, especially if they're all smoking different flavors...

Right. Though, the federal government has declared that you can't vape in a federal building, since they've decided to classify them just like cigarettes. I work in a federal building, so still have to go outside for my "smoke break."

I quit smoking a few years ago. I have a lingering curiosity to try one of those things, but I know better.

The last f'ing thing I need is to enrich some company with an addiction to something with negligible side effects!

I use an e-gig, been almost 6 months now and this is the first thing that has actually got me off cigs. I am not a douce that would pull that kind of stunt though, everyone in a public place should agree it's OK.

I still think it's funny to see some people pretend to hack when I blow out some water vapor

I do have staff that take it a little far at customer sites; puffing in meetings, etc.

I am working on lower the nicotine to nothing then quitting, but it's still a ways away.

I guess there are smokers/vapors just as adamant about there crap as non-smokers are about theirs.

Actually it's all in a grey area. The e cigarettes can't be sold as a smoking cessation device. Years of testing and specific labelling would be required first. That is up here in Canada. I have no ideas what the laws are in the USA or other parts of the world.

It's interesting to note that "testing has demonstrated that products labelled as nicotine-free often contain nicotine" and "e-cigarette companies, many of which are now owned by major tobacco companies, are using every trick in the tobacco industry’s marketing playbook. For the first time in 40 years, ads showing sexy young men and women “smoking” are back on television."

So get them hooked on the nicotine and then start selling them the "real" thing?

72 hours is all it takes to get the nicotine out of your system. That's from when you actually quit. After that it's all a head game.

One guy mentioned at breakfast this morning that nicotine is what he kills bugs in his garden with, so I looked it up. " Treated insects exhibit leg tremors, rapid wing motion, stylet withdrawal (aphids), disoriented movement, paralysis and death". Yes I really want to be in a room full of people breathing that out in unregulated dosages.

My daughter "vapes" as a crutch while she is quitting smoking. She hasn't has a cig for a couple of months so it is time for her to stop vaping. I smokes for 35 years and quit last spring and I understand the need for help. They are nowhere close to a stinky as a real cig but they do leave an aroma.
