How does the 911 bubble work?

Pickups these days can easily go for 60-70k... Its insane money! Even very used ones go for 40k! Sucks needing to buy a newish pickup, especially if you need a diesel!

60,000 SCs over 6 production years...

Perspective: 243,000+ Camaros produced just in '69

I get they're not really "rare" cars but they're not high production like a great many other cars that are and have been considered collectible.

My '78 Targa, of 2579 built, it's 1 of 278 made in it's color...American Collector Car people would pay an enormous premium and consider that incredibly rare.

Is the 60k production number for SC's just US or does it include ROW?

I really never have considered my car as an exotic or collector type car. It's just my car, and I haven't entertained any thoughts of selling it. I've said a couple of times here, it seems like every second person on the forum has a '69, so to me they seem pretty common. I also thought engine/trans rebuilds were expensive until I read about the rebuild costs of modern engines & transmissions now days - even for the more common cars. I imagine most people just buy crate or used if they're replacing an engine or tranny. I, like lots here haven't had an auto payment for many years and haven't bought any cars (for myself) for the last ten years except for my wife's car. I think we just don't realize the current prices of things and are used to prices years ago. I know I will never pay $50K to $70K for a new pickup. My '03 Ford pickup handles my requirements just as well as a new one. I don't consider an older 911 going for $30K to $50+K anything exceptional except for those in great original condition that have sold for and sell for $100K+.

I'm pretty sure that's total production. I don't have the ratio, but back then the US got the majority of cars by a lot.

Getting that targa back in shape is going cost 15k at least. And that's not opening the engine or trans. I don't believe "great drivers" are just parked for 10 years.

Always wanted a 60's speedster growing up in the 70's. Most of those are rust buckets or show cars now so that wasn't really an option anymore.

I remember when I sold my 2nd house for $617,500 in 2004. I paid $201,000 for it in 1997. I was like wow someone paid THAT for that house. So I guess i did okay in real estate but I'm not doing too well on cars.

Then again I bought the cars because I love them. I'm obsessive compulsive and just had to have them. Didn't buy them as an investment but it turns out they might be anyway cause they aint getting any cheaper.

My perspective is that's what you pay to play if you want to own a fine peace of German machinery. For you guys that paid half what I did...good for you! Dont question it. Be happy about it.

Maybe some of you guys who got in cheap have mixed emotions about whether or not you should capitalize and move on or hold on. I dont have that problem. I will be keeping one of the cars regardless of perceived value, market value, whatever. I just like the cars and ain't driving no Honda, or Nissan.

Here are the cars. Picked up the Targa last november and bought the Coupe on ebay last week and its being transported here from the east coast. Both fall in the $25-$30 range (actually 28.3 for the coupe). The Targa is an original owner car with 109k and the coupe has 65K on it . I did the best I could finding decent cars and it wasn't easy even in this price range. people are trying to get the same for some real heaps.

When I got my 911 my Mom said to me "What a great car. In ten years time it will still be a great car, whereas if you had bought a Japanese car for the same money it would be a pile of rubbish by then." Twenty years later it is still a great car.

Umm, and numerous Japanese cars of mine have become piles of rubbish over that time.
