There simply has to be more to the story like why he didn't just break the window.

edit: looks like the man was 72 and did struggle to get out but couldn't, sad there wasn't someway to get ou.

Tupperware can be deadly. Very deadly, and should be taken seriously.

Even just a spring loaded center punch would have solved the problem.

WTF is he doing leaving his dog in the car while he is in Waffle House for nearly FOUR hours? I don't think I have ever spent more than a half hour in a Waffle House...

Very sad. Side windows aren't that easy to break. I've seen guys swing a halligan bar at a window and have it bounce right off.
99% of drivers out there would never have a thought of keeping something in the car to break a window out, so its hard to fault the guy for that.

What ever happened to just pull the inner door handle and the door unlocks, I thought THAT was the safety feature to stop this sort of thing?

Yep! Another reason I hate all the electronic BS on modern vehicles.

And that's why all my cars have a window punch! In Florida we have so many retention ponds and hear about people driving into them, it's just extra comfort.

After I read the Car And Driver article where they tested window breaking devices, ('most every one failed), I just went to Harbor Freight and got a couple of 16oz claw hammers for my cars. I've got 'em stowed where I can reach 'em belted in, but they are secure so they don't become missiles.

I figure if I can't break the window with the blunt end, I can probably do the deed with the claw. I hope I never have to find out.

As to the Corvette guy, so many questions. No cell phone? No customers in the parking lot? Hadn't he cracked a window for his dog? Something is weird here, and I'm thinking heart attack or something.

(PS! Read your owners manual!!!)

The secret to breaking a side window in hitting it in one of the bottom corners.

Or you can pry on it till it snaps.

I'm probably a bad example, because I'm a walking hardware store/ ninja dojo with weapons, but I'm sure that I could have broken that window out if it happened to me.

Weird chain of events for sure. The door had to have power to open, so he had the keys. Then the power failed the moment he tried to open the door, and could not start the motor.

Couldn't kick the windshield out?. Even a old person should be able to do that.
