I don't like open toed shoes for safety reasons. There are many occasions even during spare time where something may hit your toes! Also want to be able to walk significant distance and run at any time to get out of an emergency situation. This is especially true when in a car and airplane and in public places. SoCal is super laid back ... Until the next good shaker ...
I remember passing a wreck on the interstate where a little dog had jumped out of the car and was running down the median along oncoming traffic - and a guy several hundred feet behind it "running" after it in his flip flops ... Not sure if he was able to fetch the dog before it got run over ... I remind my family of this when we travel and everyone wears shoes ... G |

I think subconsciously, I look down on old grown men who walk around with shorts, t-shirt and filp flops.
They look like they never grew up, have some sort of chemical imbalance, or are not to be trusted with important things. Part of this is because I am an employer I think, and I spot things that suggest a person is lazy or sloppy, and going out in public without shoes or at least more sophisticated version of flip flops, like those action sandals or Addidas slip on sandals is just one of those superficial things that sort of say "lazy slob". I think another is that my sloppy Hakujin fat-ass brother in law always looks like Chris Farley with flip flops, shorts, and t-shirt. And he's really sort of an arrogant loser. I find that sooner or later, I let my disdain for these types to show. |

Here are my favorites, I wear these to travel, cut the grass, pretty much wherever I please. I always catch the ladies checking me out on elevators. I hardly think a retired surgeon, retired nephrologist, and a cashed out Clinical Laboratory owner with a Ph.D could be called "lazy slob". |

I do wear flip flops; more so recently than in the past. I guess all those years of keeping my feet cramped up in combat boots, and now in dress shoes every day...it's kinda liberating. Like someone else mentioned, I have the type that goes between the toes, and the kind that go over the toes. The over the toes ones, I use for the drive to/from softball games so I don't have to wear my cleats in the car. |

If you walked into his office, and he's got to be in his 90s now, with flip flops, you'd never hear the end of it. Let's say he'd judge you for sure. Most businesspeople I know, especially sharp ones, size people up instantly. Yeah, people DO judge books by their covers. Yes it IS superficial. But that's the way it is. If you want to try to succeed despite being a lazy slob, have at it. Go right ahead. |

I wear my flip flops just about every weekend here along the coast.
Going on 36 years with the same pair. Bought them around '79 when I was visiting a friend in San Diego. They're Lighting Bolt flip flops. |
