Need help ID'ing speed boat:

This is a spill-over from my 4th of July thread but does anyone know what model and approx. year this Chris Craft ski boat is? Or a web site that could help? I tried a bunch of different search terms and learned about a bunch of other CC boats but not this one. TIA as always!

Looks like early 80s to me. A CC dealer that isn't brain dead should be able to help.

^ Agree with the 80's. Flat paneled windscreen sort of dates it. Had a Formula with similar lines.
note: Thru transom exhaust. Open? Many populated lakes now have noise restrictions. Mufflers required / Db rated and no grandfathered clause. DNR is out with sound measuring and readily hand out hefty fines.

Thanks to all! I thought of searching for a dealer but after my experience recently with Airstream dealers and my '63 trailer, I'm not too hopeful.

This one is sitting on an island in Lake Superior, (BIG lake), but I assume it's all legal since it's in the water.

Agree.

I also agree that unless you only want to hold conversations when the boat is stopped with the engine shut off - AVOID through-the-hull (above water) exhaust applications.

Otherwise, at most any running speed you will be screaming to the person in the next seat ..and they still won't hear you.

BINGO!

1980s CC 230 Scorpion, (23 ft.). I knew I could count on you guys, (or at least one of you), this board is better than calling a dealer or just about anyone. I'm starting to think there is no question that cannot be answered here, at least about important things like boats/planes/trucks/etc.

Thanks again, Vinny!

I'll bet it gets up and scats, though!

Easy upgrade to underwater exhaust. That was an option on high end rides starting around 87. You had a switch that allowed WAAAAHHHHHH, or silent burble with water quiet.

Same Federal reg that killed the air cooled Porsche IIRC.

Very possibly true. It all depends on the engine (size) and prop (pitch).

Truly, if you are considering buying THIS boat, consider this additional problem with those exhaust pipes: The boarding ladder(s) is/are right next to those HOT exhausts! Problem enough for adults that can remember to avoid them. A REAL problem when having young children aboard. An 'accidental burn' concern - of which you need to be aware. And as you can see they make the rear 'sundeck' area all but unusable.

Good point. Not a desirable set-up.

Why the obsession with this particular boat? I'd think there are much better more modern boats for the money....

boat's state registration numbers should be linked to the year of issue

the last two letters will give a date GN

they start with AA and go AB AC ect

that does assume the boat is still in the state first registered in

then see who owned the boat Corp at that time
as some owners/builders are much better then others
even in a NAME Corp like CC
there is some real junk boats with brand names on them

Made the mistake of looking at the price of a new Master Craft Prostar and almost passed out.

It would be a PITA to own in the Los Angeles city area. Parking it, taking it places...

No more drunken blonde girls at parties. Your weekends would be taken up by fixing/modifying the boat.

Isn't this what people say to air cooled owners?

Exactly. My life would be so much simpler if I could just get over my obsession with cool stuff and only buy new products.

It would be a lake boat for Minnesota and Wisconsin, where I am frequently in the summer.

You are generally correct about storage space in Los Angeles but I have access to some not too far away. A boat in L.A. needs to be kept in the water at a Marina or a beach house. It would be a lot of fun to blast around the coast, Malibu and Ventura, etc.

Dennis, what are you fighting on your trailer?
The air forums is a good source for info. And sources for parts for the older models.
Like most Porsche dealers , the airstream dealers are more into servicing the newer stuff.

Airforums is the Pelican of the airstream world.
Lots of restorers, and DIY folks there that may be some help in your projects.

Cheers Richard

I've owned that boat, same color ... make sure it or any boat you buy doesn't have blisters on the bottom http://www.yachtsurvey.com/BuyingBlisterBoat.htm
