A guy in my group here at work did stress analyses on the Buran shuttles...

We'll I haven't seen this before, and find it amazing and a bit sad as an expression of the changing times.
Stunning, thanks for sharing

At least this time, you only had one page to visit to see all the pictures. I absolutely hate those "20th worst/best/scariest...." where they want you to advance to another page to see. I click on the first picture then bail.

That was a cool page. Russia seems to be collapsing around itself. There's been quite a bit of news/propaganda lately that the Russian military is in complete disrepair with malfunctioning ships and crashing airplanes. Hopefully none of their nukes will spontaneously go off.

Mike, stop teasing... what did the stress analysis reveal? Could it have made it to orbit and back multiple times like US Shuttles?

Its wild to think how many hundred of millions of dollars they spent building the Buran, and that facility and then one day just flicked the lights off, walked out, and forgot about them like that.

That is totally mind boggling.

So is it a fact that they stole our design for the shuttle or we both came up with the same design working independently?

Times changed even more since those photos were taken.
The hangar collapsed 13 years ago, destroying K1 - which was the only one of the two that ever flew. Seven workers were also killed in the collapse.

What remains of K2 is now stored in Kazakhstan.

How absolutely awesome would that be to walk around that place looking at all the unfinished projects without an anal tour guide or a large group ruining the moment.

Amazing that the ceramic tiles were falling off from a static vehicle in the earth's atmosphere. How would they have fared on take-off, the journey into space, and more importantly during re-entry.
Or does Russian tile adhesive have a limited life warning on the packaging?
