Other peoples' dogs in your house....

This wearing shoes in your own or other peoples's houses got me thinking. For instance a relative or friend comes to your house and they bring a dog(not expected) do you let the dog in as well or say no to the dog?

For us the dog is a definite no as strange dogs in our house have marked their new territory by peeing and pooing.

No. My dogs would vote no, very loudly. I'd make the dog comfortable elsewhere, but the best solution would be to send the guest and the dog packing. Too easy to spread diseases from one dog to another, even if the other dog is coralled in the back yard for the visit.

Not really keen on that, the in-law has two small dogs that come in but they are here often.
Other peoples dogs? Well they have a big property to run around, but not in the house please.

Good one. Our door bell does not work and I have never fixed it. Generally only let people in if it has been prearranged.

Yeah.......................................not in our house either. Everyone knows we have a 85lb male Chow-Chow that is completely full of himself and would have no problem with a new 'flavored' snack....................

Big time no here also. I would NEVER consider letting our dog in someone else's house - not that he's not house-trained or anything like that, but just that he's a dog and not everyone is comfortable w having an animal in their house.

Plus, our Aussie thinks the whole neighborhood is his territory when it comes to other dogs. He would go ballistic w/ another dog in the house.

NO! Only other dogs in our house were by invite or dogsiiting.

And I would never bring my dog to another house unless invited.

Hell no, and not just because of the cats. I like dogs but they're not particularly clean animals and I work hard enough to keep my place clean.

Where I live people bring their dogs to the supermarket and patio restaurants. I love dogs, but it drives me crazy.

really depends on the dog.

my brother brought two big dogs once. total chaos, but it was fun. nothing a wet mop after everyone left couldnt fix.

i dont take my small dog anywhere, unless they beg me to, and give me written permission. my dog is old and slow..sleeps.

in my experience, visiting dog are less destructive than people's kids.

I have a nice Sago palm by my front door and a big, Black snake lives there. Had people ask me why I don't kill it, I tell them he keeps vermin away, and that alone has been fun to watch

You would be surprised
And when they know that you have cats, it is even worse

Me ....along with whereever else I went with this one particular lab. Music festivals, bars (listening to bands), fishing, etc. she was always along for the ride. I certainly had the sense to pick up on "not wanted" too fwiw, but she had the welcome mat out for her 99% of the time. I didn't realize it was such an issue for some...

ps: And like Byron...I'd weclome most dawgs before I would people and "their" kids

You have that right.. It isn't that I don't like dogs, I don't like my home being upset

We had a campout at our farm for 3 different families who all brought thier kids and dogs. A couple of the lights in my barn were shot out with thier BB guns, and one boy found a freshly killed kitten that had it's neck broken (irronically right after his Dad had yelled at him). Nothing was said to the boy's parents, and no apologys were asked for or given, but it was obvious that he had wrung the cat's neck in anger.

A week later, his parents re-homed thier new puppy that they had brought with them on the campout (probably for fear of the same thing happening)......isn't that how serial killers get thier start ?

My dogs were invited by a very cool chick into her house. She wanted us to stay for a while, and it was cold outside. I would have most likely left otherwise, rather than leave them in the truck. They pooped in her bedroom. She didn't seem to mind.
