when the Silver Arrows are down, the team just doesn't seem to know how to play catch up

*** SPOILER ALERT ***
Vettel had an exceptional race. Don't know what Rosberg was thinking cutting across Ricciardo like that. He said afterwards that it was his corner... always thought it is the duty of the passer to make sure he is clear. It didn't look like Rosberg had the pace to catch Vettel anyway. Good to see McLaren have a good day for a change. Both cars in the points. ![]()

Just as I am about to give up on F1 after 20+ yrs.... Wow...
Rosberg must be livid at what happened - not saying he wasn't partly responsible, but if he cannot score when HAM is having that kind of day, it's hopeless for him. Amusing that after all that happened HAM can still finish a race this high - yet Rosberg could do nothign about the Ferrari ahead ?! Now under the category of "teaching an old dog new tricks": I never was a fan of Vettel. Probably because I like Webber and hated the "fingers of victory"... But I find myself liking the guy more and more... He's destroyed Kimi, making the season less of a bore by occasionally fighting Mercedes, his radio comm on Jules Bianchi, in perfect French no less, was very well thought out and delivered... Respect ! Good for MacLaren as well ! The underdogs got a break (Renault too) |

Like you said, Rosberg must be in the dumps. Now he has a few weeks to think about it, hopefully he doesnt quit on the season. It was great to see Honda get some points, hopefully they have things figured out a little. Sloppy race but it never was boring, cant say that often. |

I sat down on the couch Sunday morning thinking this was going to be another Hammy run away. He had been fastest all weekend and sat on the pole. Why should today be any different????
But NOOOOOOOOO........... From the first turn on it was a action packed race. If only there had been a few passes for the lead. But I have to give credit to SB. What he said about Jules was very impressive. I also thought Steve Matchett's comments on Jules were very nice. Poor Nico. A sure P2 finish until Daniel Ricciardo tries a bonzi pass. And Riciardo had contact with three cars during the race and finished P3.

Great race! Good to see the red cars running well, but this failure may be the end for Kimi, even though not his fault. HAM is a puss. Whining about his team mate on the radio is very bad form, IMO.
MB still dominant the rest of the year though, afraid.

Until Merc find an answer to #2, they will struggle with #1. This race has provided a gold mine of data for the engineers and aero guys for many months to come. |

And I also think it would be a huge mistake for Ferrari to sign Bottas. And also for McLaren to let Button go unless they can get another hardened veteran. Mags and a rookie would be chewed up and spit out in next year's McLaren, and they are not a leading team that can win on raw speed.

Keep in mind this was a high downforce track where top speeds and big HP were not the dominating factors.
The next race (Spa) will be different with a mix of tight turns, wide fast sweepers, and long (semi) straights. Odds are the mercs will again run away from the pack. Hope I'm wrong. |

It was an interesting race. Strange first lap and then the start was something else.

Being a HAM fan I was disappointed to see him miss extending his podium streak. I was very happy to hear him apologize to his team for screwing the pooch. He seems to have turned the maturity corner a bit recently. Bad days don't seem to get him down so much - great to see.
Just feel awful for Kimi. Phenomenal start and better pace than ROS completely scuttled due to no fault of his own. If he'd been driving mistake free up 'till now it wouldn't be an issue, but with his seat on the line this just sucks. Gotta feel good for Kvyat too! And Verstappen 4th - woot! |

I would have bet against that. |

Kvyat has got to be stoked. The issue in Spa will be overtaking/ vs the start. I think the new regs regarding practice starts and driver assisted launch is having a major impact on the races.

Even the Swedish chap managed to score one point no less.
