I may or may not have done 135 mph on a crappy back road; very rough so I backed out there. I have gone faster than that on the Nurburgring though.
|
167 mph on Auto Club Speedway front straight just last month. Was still pulling hard when I lifted for the banking. 140mph in the banking is about all DOT tires will hold.

It was a weird sensation when on a modded GSXR1100, throttling in that 160-165 range (consider the speedo error as being optimistic) and some stranger in a 930 is breathing down my back. A few moments later and this guy blows past me, becomes just a dot and then vanishes!

I had my integra topped out in the middle of nowhere in Texas one time, North of 130 I suppose.
I don't even own a car that would go that fast now. The aero on either the Miata or the 914 is about like a brick towing an anchor. |

944 S2 – about 145-150, It was sucking air pretty good at 6000+ft.
STi – 135 . . . air pushed the radiator and attached electric fan into upper coolant hose. Felt otherwise planted, but twitchy. E55 AMG – Electronically limited to 155. It hits the speed limiter hard. Built to go this fast all day. Smart – 88, scary tomfoolery. |
Wanted to see what the 930 would do in third. I think I saw 137...

I did 168 in my '77 with 3.6L, measured with a Garmin GPS. Somewhere I have a picture of the GPS with the indicated speed.

I spent a sh-t load of money getting under 20 seconds for a measured mile. Just running .8 bar so whoever wants to crank the boost on a cold cold day with 101 octane and 1.2 might get close to the magic 200mph barrier. It was always on my bucket list but I haven't felt the need the last decade:)
I saw an article in a late 80's euro car mag where they showed how many hp it takes to get to xxx speed. A Steep curve in a turbo body car with wide wheels the closer to 200 one gets. |
I'm running 50/50 91 and 104 Sonaco 260 GT plus at 1.2 bar (17.4 psi) of boost. Even with a good jump out of the "Playground" at ACS, 167mph seems to be my max before running out of straight…but she's still pulling very hard. I think I could hit 200 with just another 1/4 mile.

Several years ago (maybe 2 years before I retired), PCNA gave me a very nice trip to Germany. 20 guys got to go on the trip and we landed in Frankfurt (business class on Lufthansa) then a short flight to Leipzig in old east Germany where the Cayenne plant is located. We toured the plant, got to drive all the cars on the test track followed by a hot lap by a test driver (25 year old kid) and he had blue smoke coming off the tires all the way around the track. We all got to drive 997 C4's on the autobahn from Leipzig to Stuttgart where the sports car factory is located. We had 2 guys to a car and took turns driving, 7 cars to a group (group leader drove a Cayman). Each group was led by a German auto club guy and we had speakers in our cars so he could tell us if we were getting off the autobahn for gas or lunch or to change drivers. The most fun thing he would say was "Vee have no speed limit, here vee go!" In the old east Germany the road was wide open without much traffic so flat out was no problem for extended periods. In west Germany there was much more traffic, lots of trucks and some road repair work. We were able to drive for several minutes at a time with pedal to the metal in 6th gear. The one time I had the nerve to take my eyes off the road and peek at the speedo, it read 170mph. It was fun but very stressful. I was happy when we pulled into the factory at Stuttgart.--Dave

Back on subject: I never did over a buck fifty except inside an aluminum tube high in the sky. |
'88 911 targa, redline, 5th gear. That's good for 150 plus or minus a bit. The car had a lip spoiler, but no tail. The rear end definitely felt a light light and bouncy over 130 or 135, but it wasn't white knuckle scary. I think I've had the boxster up around 135 or so. Rock solid stable at that speed.

Had a early speed rush riding on back with a friend on his Triumph 650. Trying to do the Ton, on a new section of interstate in Fla. Back in the sixties.
I think we were closing in on it when he decided to duck down with out letting me know. I had been being pushed forward by the wind wrapping around him, so was pushing myself back to keep from being plastered all over his back. When all of a sudden he was gone and then the wind was definitely in my face. Like I said I was pushing back and not holding the strap that crossed the seat. Well I instantly blew back almost off the bike when my feel came up under his legs and hooked there. That was all that kept me on the bike. Well that and a probable major butt clench on the seat. Would have been some serious road rash at least. Ah what we survive as kids. |
At the first Rennsport at Daytona I had a 964 Turbo race car. When i went over the start finish line the speedo was pegged at 180. I'm sure the speedo was wrong but I'm sticking with my story.
It was some cool |
Here's 135 at Laguna seca a couple weeks ago. :D
