My kids and I see a lot of movies together. Beginning with that horrific massacre in 2012 at the Batman movie, I have become very nervous and uneasy sitting in a theater. On high alert. I am suspicious of people that come in late, or leave when a movie gets started. At the latest Mission Impossible movie, one guy didn't take a seat for almost 30 minutes, standing off to the side of the theater. An usher finally came to "assist" him. Hate to be paranoid...

It would be interesting to analyze what location in a theatre give you the lowest probability of being shot in a theatre attack . . .

So, do you think my J-frame snubby is an adequate movie gun, or do I need to haul my G19?

Just don't let your spoon fall out of your pocket and then walk out like that one guy.

This particular case appears to be a suicide-by-cop. There was a total of eight people, including the perp, in the theater when he began his attack. The latest report says he used an air soft pistol, a hatchet, and pepper spray. No lethal firearm was used. He had a fake bomb, as well.

This is eerily similar to the event in Studio City a few weeks ago. Young man sits on the planter outside a bank on a major thoroughfare, and discharges a pistol into the ground a few times. Sits and waits for the swat team with a back pack and small bag--containing a fake bomb. Swat shows up, he ignores all commands, then raises his weapon. It's over in a split second. He was about the same age, and had mental issues.

Edit: just reported Tennessee shooter had a history of psychiatric issues.

I can't remember the last time I went to the movies unarmed. It was probably in Europe or over 20 yrs. ago in the US. I might go to the movies once every two years. Will never ever go unarmed. If I see metal detectors, I'll go elsewhere. Gunbuster signs are invisible to me.

Same here. Pretty sad commentary on our world.

I haven't been to a movie in a theater in years. These shootings are just one more reason not to.

I took my kids and a friend of their to see a movie last week. As we walked in I took notice of the layout of exits in the lobby.

As we were going into find the theater with our movie I pointed out the exits to the kids and told them to use them if something happens. During the movie I was watching the other people for anything out of the ordinary.

I am not a gun owner so I'm not sure what the heck I could do if there was a shooter. I guess having an escape plan is better than not.

Theater shooting? The only shooting was buy the police. But I guess the headline looks better than " Crazy man with a hatchet and pepper spray goes wild in a theater"

What would you do or expect the police to do if you saw someone with a gun in their hand at the movies? Would you know it was an airsoft and then just not care?

But you just KNOW if a concealed carrier had been the one to take the guy down, our erstwhile hero would subsequently be gang-raped by the DA's office, the media, Bloomberg, and the White House.

That is, if he survived the arrival of the po-pos.

Depends on the county. Pima or Coconino, yes. Maricopa, not likely.

This, only less of a haiku feel if I typed it

I worked in a movie theater in high school, got burned out on them, even before people started bringing cell phones. Last three movies I saw in a theater were Toy Story 3, Gladiator and The Cable Guy. Prior to that, Out of Africa maybe. In the last 30 years , that is about it. A lot of crazy people out there. Too bad we don't feel like mental health treatment is that important.
