My neighbor John was diagnosed early a few years back. Went through treatments, and although it slowed him down a little bit, he is doing great, and you would never know he went through it.
Wishing you the best.

There was a thread on here a few years ago- a few doctors were on / in it.
Most concurred its better to ignore it.......Thats how i remeber it and am following the advice.
i am not telling what to do......just relating what i remeber .
Their wisdom words were - you are likely to die with it, not of it.

I was very hesitant posting this on here I am generally a private person. But I have been on Pelican a long time and have made some good long distance friends. I guess I wanted to tell my Pelican family as a dry run for my real family. I really appreciate all the support and Vash that is a very nice jesture. If by me posting this makes one Pelican member go get tested then it was worth it. Thanks to each and every one of you !!!

Good luck in your fight! My cousin beat it with the same positive attitude you have displayed. Hopefully this will be uplifting. He was told by one doctor to get his affairs in order as it was pretty advanced. He refused to accept that and found a doctor who treated it very aggressively. He's here today because of a good doctor an a refusal to give up.

my grandfather is a prostate cancer survivor. Got it at 79, had the radium seed procedure, kicked its ass. A week after getting the seed procedure done, he was re-shingling his roof. go figure

He's 85 now and a little thinner, but healthy.

Best of luck

Sounds like you caught it early.

Let us know if there is anything we can do, but I am thinking that this is just a hiccup in your life, to remind you to do all those things for yourself that you have been putting off.

My dad had it 20 years ago, he had pinpoint radiation and is now 93 years old and going strong. Best of luck!

Richard, treatment is at its best ever these days. No personal experience but a friend went through with the surgery then the radiation. No return as of 5 years. Today, I think there are many more options. My best to you, your family, and most of all, good fortune with this as you go forth. Let me know in the future when you're on the healthy side of this.

Do not ignore it.

Do NOT do 'alternative' treatments... could kill you.

Listen to your doctor.

Get a second opinion. Maybe a third.

Some prostate cancers are very slow growing, some are very fast.

It is a very bad way to go if it spreads.

My very best wishes to you Sir. I posted about the same issue about five years ago and after a week or two of worries the biopsy came back clean.

I was diagnosed 4 years ago 3 positive cores out of 12 psa 15! I was 49 and freaking out. After some internet searching I calmed down (guess it could have gone either way) I realized that 90% of the time it is fairly slow moving so you have time to see some other Doctors, ask yours for references if they are all Urologist's maybe find an Oncologist or Radiation guy to talk to . There is more than one Right way to treat this cancer. My voice of honesty and reason on the internet is DR. Charles "snuffy " Myers he runs a place in Virginia, AIDP. He was developing drugs for the treatment of prostate cancer when he was diagnosed with it so I feel he knows it inside and out https://askdrmyers.wordpress.com/ is his VLOG where he answers questions just scroll to the bottom and go to previous posts he pretty much covers it all. Some of the stuff is about diet we all know we need to eat better but most of the stuff is straight to the point. If you would like to talk PM me your # and I would be happy to share my experience. That goes for anybody else in the same boat.

This is what my brother had done a few years ago as well. His was "borderline" and he decided to be proactive with it. In hindsight now he wishes he would have NOT done the procedure but waited it out.

The doctors/urologists' job in regards to the prostate is a challenging one. It apparently is more of a watch and wait scenario over the last few years. Being too radical too soon may not be good eg . removal of the prostate gland can lead to incontinence/sexual problems(erectile dysfunction etc). OTH delayed recognition of the problem like my bro in law lead to the cancer spreading to the bladder and he died after 6 years of initial cancer diagnosis.

In my case with a simple enlarged prostate and not being able to urinate the doc got me in for the turp procedure within a month. Okay so my plumbing is back to normal, no incontinence but a minor problem that is acceptable.

What would be important for me like my other bro in law would be to get the cancer out of my body(ie. my living bil had his prostate removed). Minor issues now. No idea about his sex life. In my case I can urinate no problem now. Minor issues with anything else. Don't forget my bil and I are around 70 yo. In your late 50's then your priorities may be different.Do your research and hope doc appointment went well. As mentioned above if not satisfied get a second opinion.

Cheers, Guy

diagnosed at 51. 12 biopsies, all positive. That was 2001. Got a second opinion with Dr. Partin (of the Partin tables) who confirmed the lab results and suggested surgery. At that time, robotic surgery was not recommended. Going on 12 years out and my PSA is starting to show some up tick, not sure why as of yet

Lessons learned are simple. Go to a physician who specializes. Don't trust this to a normal doc or even a urologist who does not do more than 5 to 10 per month. Get second and third opinions. Many more treatment options than when I went through this. While prostate cancer is a slow grower within the prostrate, as soon as it migrates to the lymph system or other near by organs, treatment becomes more difficult.

Would highly recommend the Brady Urological Institute at Johns Hopkins where I got my treatment. MD Anderson, Mayo, Sloan Kettering, UCSF to name a few are very good at what they do.

Watchful waiting can also work, though you would need follow ups pretty regularly. Know there are many out there who have been through this and thrived.
