Sam Sung or I phone?

Just got new phone after with my wife. Its time to upgrade. I am not a phone geek at all and use it to well, talk most of the time. Text two to three times daily and check email. Send pics back and forth to and from my workmen and watch no movie or U-tube. Hell, not even music or surf Pelican. To damn slow. I bought an I phone 6 as I was waiting for them to set things up, another guy walked in from his break and said to me, why do you want to go backwards and buy an antique. My wife is smart, she got the Sam Sung 4 or something, their latest. I am coming from a Galaxy3 . so what would you do? I am thinking I should buy the same phone like my wife's? My desk top is a Mac, so I am not sure if there's an advantage.

IPhone all the way. Much prefer UI to Android.

Yup. iPhone is the one for using and just having it work with ease. If you want to feel out and try to mess with all kinds of settings then android.

And I'd do some hard research before believing any phone sales idiot. Most of them barely know their ass from a hole in the ground, and heavily sell based on their own personal bias.

+1

Maybe I'm a fanboy or whatever but I'm on my third iPhone and each one has been great and they just keep getting better. iOS is solid. Can't wait for the 6S to come out - might upgrade. They keep making good products and the Samsung phones look just like a bigger rip-off to me.

I had an iPhone. Since then I have had 3 generations of Samsung Galaxy phones. I much prefer Samsung/Android.

Honestly, just look at both and buy the one you like. At the end of the day they do all the same things. There are IPhone only and Samsung only features but none of them are major features just neato gimmicks trying to set one apart from the other. They are both great devices, Just depends which interface you like better.

Chevy or Ford.

I prefer my iPhone but Android devices are just as capable especially with your limited need for features.

The sales guy is an idiot.

If you already have apple products at home and your wife has an iphone and likes it, there you go. I've never had anything but android but only because I use google apps and email a lot. I have a samsung 6. It does the same crap all of my other phones have done. I'd prefer a smaller phone but those don't sell so they quit building them. Plenty of friends with iphones that love them.

I believe the security on Apple products is 100x higher than android. I am not a tech person so my opinion isn't worth much. A thought however.

My iPhone works better as a computer than it does a phone. And it's a phone that I need more than a pocket computer. So I'm going with Samsung for my next one.

iPhone.
Sales guy just completed Sales 101. Sell the customer what is best for you, not what is best for them.
I have had several Androids and iPhones. No fault with Androids, just that iPhones are better. They get a high sales price when you buy another new phone also. I sold my iPhone 5 for $350 when I bought my 6.

On android security:

Waiting for Android

If you use a Mac, then you should definitely get an iPhone.

But don't be one of those people who switches to a different operating system and starts ranting on day one about how hard to get used to it is. Whenever you switch, there is a learning curve.

Never had a problem with phone "security".

I work with apples and PC's. they both crash/have problems.

My wife and I have androids, my brothers family has iPhones, both have problems.

John's post clearly high lights the issues with Android in general.

The fragmentation and manufacturer / control of the OS and updates is not an issue to be ignored.

Say what you will about Apples walled garden and their approach to controlling the apps that make it to their platform but their is no doubt it's ultimately in the average consumers best interest.

It's known that at least 10% and thought as much as 30% of apps on google play are compromised.

Apps from Chinese developers are far more likely to contain malware than anything else.

Even hardware peripherals are now a concern.

USB drives with embedded malware chips already exist and it's thought charging cables will be next.

Look: Anything will work for. You might want a used phone, since the latest whiz-bang stuff isn't what you're doing. It sounds like the App store is not an issue either.

The issue I'm having with most of the new phones is that the battery is not removable and the lack of Micro-SD card. The Micro-SD may not be an issue for you, but the spare battery is really nice.

Samsung went "Apple Like" and no longer has a removable battery.

I guess the real question is, what do you want to spend? No Apps, no security issues.

This.

My wife and daughter have iPhones, my son and I are android. MacBook pro is our home computer. No real complaints on either device and frankly they are very similar in function and capability. People who claim otherwise are deluded.

All my OSX devices receive the same updates at the same time.

All my iOS devices receive the same updates at the same time.

My Windows devices receive the same updates at the same time.

I have 5 android devices. Only two of them are at the same update level which is the OS as it was 5 years ago when they shipped.
OIf the other 3 the only one that is current is my Nexus.

Suffice it to say I have no issues using my OSX/iOS/Windows devices for financially related tasks.

Won't even consider using my Android devices for that, maybe the Nexus if I were in a pinch and had no other choice.

YMMV

Sales guy gets an extra $100 commission for each Samsung he sells.

Both phones are top shelf hardware technology, the iphone just always works and is pretty seamless with a Mac. The Samsung Android offers a lot more tweakability for the dedicated techno-geek. Pick your poison.
